what summer felt like

We were these kids living in 2019 and still having an obsession on fidget spinners. Wasting the first two decades of our lives in this town where nothing ever happened and everything stayed the same. But although every single one of us longed for the moment when we could finally leave this place, our summers were always great. They were spent with fidget spinners, sitting under trees, talking for hours while watching these things (that were so unbelievably out at the time) spin and spin and spin... They were spent buying ice cream, laughing our asses off and being the only ones walking to a drive-in-theater and then sitting with friends on their truck just because it was cooler and although I hated it I cared about being cool. Somehow I cared. And it was kind of okay to care about stupid things because it was summer and summer tasted like heat, dust, happiness and a hint of the freedom we all longed to finally experience. We were young and we cared about stupid things and we were caught in the duality of hating our lives in this town and loving them because it was summer.
