"Are you sure this is what you want?" The room went silent with only the sound of a tree banging on a window to be heard. The two stood still for what seemed like forever. The breathing also seemed to stop as the man stared at the woman contemplating her question. It wasn't strange for her to feel this way, but what was done was done. There was no going back.
"More sure than I have ever been." His sentence was short but her stare was not. It lasted long after he left the building. She never saw things ending this way. None the less, it did and she was alone in a cold room that once felt warm from the love they had.
He didn't even think to look back as he exited the room. He knew that if he gave even a second glance to what he was walking away from he would crumble, something he couldn't do. He had to keep moving, get to his car and leave before she could run after him. This was the way it needed to be. Both of them had known it for a while, but neither wanted to acknowledge it. So he made the first move. He left and they were finally going to be okay again.
