Giving half a date to charity for the sake of Allah can ward you from the hell-fire.A woman with her two daughters visited A’isha (May Allah be pleased with her).
She asked A’isha for some food. It’s important to know the context here, even though the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was the most respectable and honourable of Allah’s creation, living amongst a special group of people chosen by Allah - those who loved Allah and His Messenger and preferred them over their own families and selves. With one command they were ready to sacrifice everything they had for him. Despite that, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم - our excellent example; he lived a very simple and humble life. Many days would pass without any food in his house. He passed away leaving behind no wealth, in fact his armour was bonded with a Jew.
A’isha gave the lady with her two daughters what was available, she gave her three dates.
So the woman gave each daughter a date each and she kept the last one for herself.
She was just about to eat the date when one of her daughters asked her for more. So she split her share of the date into two halves and gave each daughter a half.
A’isha was astonished at what the woman did. When the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم came, she informed the Prophet about it.
The Prophet told A’isha (May Allah be pleased with her), are you astonished O A’isha because of this (what the lady did)? Are you astonished?
Allah forbade her body from entering into the hell-fire.Why?
Because of that one date.
Allah will reward for good and punish wrongdoing. Whosoever does a good deed as small as an ant or as minute as the weight of an atom will see its fruits on the day of judgement.
And whosoever does an evil action, know that he cannot hide from the One who knows all. There is no escape from Him except to Him.
It can be a word, one word you say that can bring upon you the forgiveness of Allah, and admission into paradise. Likewise it can be a word, one word that nullifies your good deeds, brings about the wrath of Allah and brings about for you a painful destination.
So give charity, especially if you do your charity secretly. For surely, secret charity extinguish the wrath and anger of Allah.
And it will shade you on the judgement day under the divine throne, a day when there’s no shade but the shade from the mighty divine throne.
Blessed is the hand which gives wherein the other hand does not know what it gave!
