"Hey guys! We got some more salmon!" Jenny confidently pushed behind the bushes while Tom followed her. Marco and I froze in terror and shock as we expected a bear or some wild animal scrambling its head from the bushes. Jenny noticed our faces and giggled. Tom began laughing hysterically watching my face go pale white alongside with Marco. After roughly five minutes, the fire was back on and the salmon was cooked and ready to eat. We sat down and chewed on some freshly cooked salmon as we discussed topics prior to the current situation they were in. We also told a couple of spooky stories to support the mood of the mystical night in the unknown island.
Soon, the fire went out due to the cool wind breeze blowing the spark. I stood up and made my way to the island's forest, keeping close to the entrance. I grabbed some fallen wood and strolled back to our campsite. Then, I felt something hit the bottom of my foot; something rather hard and smooth. I tried adjusting my eyes to the foreign object despite the darkness, but I managed to make out the texture of the object. It doesn't seem to be a living creature, so I picked it up, dropping the sticks. I held that object in one hand and carried the sticks under my shoulders. As I reached the campsite, I felt all of the eyes glare at me. I was confused at first, then I remember the object I held. I placed it close to the fire, and it revealed a white, fresh skull. I moved back instinctively and gasped. "This place... This is Corpse Island I assume if such an object is lying around the sand casually," Tom explained while wiping his moist lenses. Marco curiously poked the skull and cringed in disgust. "It seems to be fresh," Jenny remarked, getting triggered faces from us.
As we were going to sleep after a long discussion, I decided to keep the fresh skull beside a large boulder and place some sand so that the water doesn't carry it away; and so I did. I rested my head on the comforting portable pillow and gazed above the starry sky. It's been a while since I stared on what was above me, the last time I did is when my grandpa was still alive... I sighed, letting a tear quietly run down my cheek. I felt my vision darkening with every second, until I dozed off...
I woke up the next morning to be greeted with a wonderful scent of cooked fishes. It seems like the others got up before me without telling me that they were awake, how kind of them. Anyways, at least they got the job done. I took a stick that had a fish struck on it and took a bite out of the cooked fish. It tasted pretty good compared to Mr. Silver's cooking, which tasted like he rotted potatoes, sliced them to thin, rectangular shapes and topped it off with expired tomato sauce. His name for the 'food' is his 'French Fries Like No Other'. It definitely was like no other because no other fries had such a horrid taste and an awfully pungent smell. I enjoyed savoring the taste and letting my tongue get a little freedom.
After a while, I decided it was time to gather our necessities for this epic survival moment. We collected sticks for campfire wood and cutting down hard objects and hunted salmon for food on the go. We also filled our water bottles by filtering them. We boiled the water over the fire for a few minutes and let it cool down before pouring it into our water bottles. Jenny decided to take pictures of us so that if something happens to us, we have evidence and a source of proof if we make it out. The camera Jenny brought was a Polaroid so we got a physical copy of the photo. After a snap, I requested to see the photo so Jenny handed the film to me. I smiled, analyzing it for a few seconds before realizing something was off. I couldn't make out what was wrong, or if I am overreacting all along. I stared at it and shrugged it off while handing the photo back to Jenny. We continued our survival camp, taking out a few biscuits on the way. Marco spotted apples so he climbed up the tree. Unknowingly, the branch was weak, so as he used the branch as support, he heard a loud crack. Lucky for him, the tree wasn't too high and no serious damage was made. We laughed for a while before heading on. "Hmm, this forest is strange," Marco remarked. "Well, Corpse Island itself is strange so you should get used to it," Tom laughed. "No, I mean there are no animals!" Marco shot back. "First of all, isn't that a good thing that our chances of dying because of a wild bear decreased? Second of all, how would a brainless animal survive if not even a smart human made it out alive?" Tom smirked, but his smile faded away. "Oh, that only means that we are probably the only people who can help us," Jenny sighed.
Are we?
