I jumped out of my big black Chevy truck, checking my phone. I had 2 minutes before the bell would ring indicating I would be late. I grabbed my book bag, and locked my truck. I began a sprint.
My converses slapped against the concrete hard. It made a weird noise.
I finally reached the front doors to the PeachTree public high school in California.
I opened one of the double doors and ran down the hall. I ran into Mrs. Whites class.
"The bell hasn't rang yet Ms. Caroline." Mrs. White said. I'm always late.
I sighed in relief. I sat down in my desk. I looked around the class, while catching my breath.
I looked around the class room. My best friend, Georgia, was still not here. She moved last year, sophomore year. Her dad had to move because of his job. I remember begging her to stay, but I knew she couldn't. We FaceTime almost every night, but it's not the same as her being here. I missed her so much. She was the only friend I had.
I continued to look around the class. I realized I actually didn't have any friends. I live a pitiful life.
"Well, good morning class!" Mrs. White said with her famous smile. She recites that line every morning.
"Good morning." The class all sighed in unison. I looked beside me and the desk was empty.
I sighed for relief. Jake Meyers, hardly ever comes to school. When he does decide to come to school he sits next to me in this one class. He always makes me nervous, to were I almost pee my pants. Even though he doesn't say anything I'm scared for my life that he will have a temper tantrum, or just go off.
I was snapped from my thoughts by the class room door opening. I whipped my head to the door so hard I thought I had whip lash.
My mouth dropped when I saw who it was.
"Well it's nice of you to join us, Jake. You will be joining me after school in the library for detention." Mrs. White said.
He huffed, and mumbled something. "What was that Mr. Jake?" Mrs. White asked him furrowing her thick eyebrows.
"Nothing." He mumbled just loud enough for her to hear.
My heart started beating fast when he started walking down the aisle. He sat down with ease. He looked at me and smirked.
I turned my head toward the teacher. I could feel eyes on me, but I felt that way every time he was around me.
After about five minutes into Mrs.White's lesson, I felt something tap my shoulder.
I turned my head, and my eyes met Jake's light blue eyes.
"Can I borrow a pencil." He asked.
"Depends will you give it back?" I asked him. I swear my heart was about to beat out my chest.
He smirked. "Two shay." We sat there for a moment staring at each other.
"Is there something I should know about, Ms. Caroline and Mr. Jake?" Mrs. White said. Every head in the room turned to face us.
"No ma'm." I said, taking my eyes off of his, and looking at Mrs. White. My face filled with hot redness.
"Well, I'll be seeing you and Mr. Jake in detention." She said.
Everybody else said "ohhs" or "ahhs".
"What for?" I asked.
"Talking during class, actually make it two days! Say another word and I'll make it three days." She said pointing a finger at me.
I opened my mouth about to disagree, but it wasn't any use. I just closed my mouth and grabbed a pencil from my book bag. I handed the pencil to Jake. He was laughing.
I just rolled my eyes and continued my focus to my notebook I was doodling in.
_____________
It was finally lunch, I jumped out my seat and nearly ran to the lunch room. When I got in the smell of pizza filled the room. Since we have pizza every Wednesday and Friday, everybody eats at lunch.
I grabbed a slice of pizza and a water, and sat down at the booth that Georgia and I sat at.
I ate my pizza and just sat there looking at the empty booth.
"Hey, Caroline." Jeremy, Caroline's ex-boyfriend, said, sitting down in the empty booth. He's the biggest jerk and he has been flirting with me ever since Georgia left.
I rolled my eyes. "What do you want Jeremy?" I asked irritated.
"You know what I want!" He said. He looked at my chest.
"Just leave me alone." I said. I got up from the booth and threw my empty water bottle away. I walked out the lunch room and into the hallway. I walked to my locker. I turned the dial once and I heard Jeremy's voice right above my ear. "Don't ever make a scene like that again." I shivered. I turned around to face him and his face was inches from mine. He slammed my locker shut and pushed me against the locker. My head hit the lock and it hurt so bad. He wrapped his hands around my throat and picked me up off the ground. Suddenly I couldn't breathe.
"Hey, stop!" Somebody yelled. I turned my head and it was Jake. The first time I was happy to see him.
"Man, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to..." Jeremy's voice trailed off.
Jake walked up to him and punched him in the face. I instantly fell to the ground. I didn't realize he was holding me up that far. I wrapped my hands around my neck and massaged it. Jeremy got up of the ground and ran away.
I felt hands wrap around my elbows. I looked up and it was Jake. He was pretty much breath taking. His fluffy brown hair, and light blue eyes.
I let my hands drop by my side. He still had his hands on my elbows stabling me. "Are you okay?" He asked.
I nodded. He moved his hands from my elbows and they lay by his side.
My body instantly fell. He grabbed my arm and helped me up.
"I think you should go home." He grabbed my arm and wrapped it around his shoulders.
"I-I'm fine." My voice croaked.
"No, I think you should go home." He said. He looked at me. " Is your throat sore?" He asked me.
I tried to swallow. "Why is it sore so fast?" I asked. I could still feel Jeremy's hands on my throat.
He shook his head, and we continued to walk. We made it to the parking lot.
"Do I need to drive you home?" He asked.
"No. I don't need to go home. I have detention. Please just let me stay." I said. Because if I don't go today I'll have to go to detention all day tomorrow.
"Okay." He said. He sat me down on the curb. He stayed standing.
"I'm okay. I think I just need to sit down." I said reassuring him.
"Yeah." He said sarcastic. I don't even know why he takes an interest in me now. He never did before. "Who was that guy?" He asked sitting down beside me.
"Jeremy, he was my best friend's ex. My best friend moved and he has been trying to flirt with me. Long story short I really don't know why he did that." I said. "I'm sorry." I said.
"Why are you sorry?" He asked.
"I dragged you into that, and also thank you." I said looking up at him. Our eyes met. He had his jaw set.
"You didn't. I just... I don't really know why I did get into that." He said. He ran a hand through his perfect brown hair.
"Oh." I said. I thought that was kind of rude."Thank you." I said once again, but this time I didn't really want to tell him, since he didn't know why he saved me back there in the first place.
I got up and grabbed my book bag. I left him on the curb.
