The guitar was heavier then mine.
I should've brought my guitar, but who knew there was going to be an impromptu singing and guitar session at a family reunion?
Everyone was there, and I mean everyone. Distant cousins I don't know the name of, aunts, uncles, 8th cousins 3 times removed.
And they wanted to hear me sing.
I took a deep breath and strummed the first note. I was going to sing Christmases When You Were Mine by Taylor Swift, it was Christmas Eve, after all.
"Please take down the mistletoe..."
I started. Not many people were listening, the little kids were talking, the teens whispering.
By the end of the first verse, I had everyone silent.
I finished with a smile that faded immediately at the lack of a response.
The only sound was the crackle of the fireplace.
The smile returned with the sound of the applause.
