Liquid emerald ripples beneath my feet

The wooden dock sways in a dance,

Its partner the sea.

Mist billows over treetops,

Assembling clouds.

Raindrops kiss my cheeks, tart cold nips my earlobes;

Autumn in the bay.

A hot tea and the coffeehouse beckon me,

I sip carefully.

I look up into cerulean blue eyes; my spectacles fog over.

He smiles.

I take his offered arm,

We explore the little village in the rain.

We step through the terminal gates,

I stop to watch the point.

At once the ferry sails into view;

My heart is torn in half.

"I will wait for you," he says

But I mistrust him.

Our goodbye is brief,

He kisses me and whispers,

"I love you" in his country twang.

I blink and enter the walkway,

Turn to see him wave;

A tear finds its way down my cheek.

Among strangers I sit alone,

Forlorn.

Pulling my coat around me,

I gaze out the rain soaked window;

Mountains and houses slide past,

The day is grey.
