The conversation with Ethan, if it could be called conversation, left me a little distraught in the supermarket and I ended up dropping a glass cup that shattered on the floor: obviously I paid for it. I tried to put it all aside and forget it, I did not want to ruin my day with Dylan, I wanted to enjoy every minute with him. I got home, left the class stuff in the living room, and went to the kitchen to prepare lunch. I started with dessert, because it would need a refrigerator time. In the middle of preparing lunch, Dylan called me:
"Are you home yet?"
"I'm in the middle of preparing lunch."
"I'm coming."
"I'll leave the door unlocked for you to enter as soon as you arrive."
"OK. I'll be there in twenty minutes. "
I hung up the phone and went back to concentrating on preparing lunch. I would still need another forty-five minutes to finish.
I did not hear Dylan coming in, but I knew of his arrival from his embrace. I had my back to him and he arrived so quietly, and hugged me with such affection that I relaxed all the tension of the morning:
"Hummm... It smells good."
"Hope you like it."
"I will. And I hope you won't be mad at me, but I won't be spending the night with you."
"Oh okay."
"I'll be staying all weekend. I'm not leaving until Monday, when you go to work. Okay for you?"
"Of course! This... This is wonderful! "
"I know I should've talked to you about it before, but I wanted to surprise you."
"And I just loved it. But now, I have to go back to the pots."
"I'm going to sit here. I won't disturb you, I promise. "
Dylan sat on the kitchen island, talking about the food I was making, about my classes and school. I did not tell him about the conversation I had with Ethan this morning: I did not want to ruin the weekend. Yes, it would be the whole weekend.
Lunch was ready. We decided that we were going to eat on the kitchen island:
"The food is very good. Where did you learn to cook? "
"A little with my grandmother, a little with my mother, but mostly alone. I'm too picky to eat, so I thought that if I learned, I'd always eat what I liked. "
"Like for example: food without cheese."
"There's nothing worse for me than feeling like the food has cheese."
We ate and talked, and then we went to the living room, the sun was shining very hard at the back of the house. Dylan saw the pile of films beside the TV:
"Are you going to watch them all?"
"I will, but..."
"Can I see what they are?"
"OK."
"Let's watch one of them"
"You choose."
Dylan chose a movie and put it on for us to watch; we sat on the couch and he pulled me together. I fell asleep; I think I was tired - I woke up very early, slept little during the week and to top it off: the stress with Ethan. I woke up at the end of the movie.
"I'm sorry. It wasn't my intention to sleep."
"You were beautiful sleeping. Do you want to go to your room to sleep some more?"
