Fawn pulls me into her front room, pointing at the couch.
Sighing, I take a seat, pulling a cushion towards me as Fawn walks back in from her kitchen, carrying two mugs of steaming bee milk, one of which she hands to me as she sits beside me. I knew what was coming and that there was no way I could lie to her. She would know if I did. It was her gift.
"So," she says bitterly. "You fly off, don't bother telling any of us where you're off to and then return hours after disappearing off?" Her eyes are cold and I flinch away, their coldness reminding me of Peter, causing my heart to thud painfully in my chest and shudders to start in my arms and make their way slowly around my small body.
Fawn notices this and her eyes widen, the coldness melting away.
Of course I wasn't scared of her, but she didn't know that. She hadn't heard what had happened, and I didn't know if I would be able to tell her without my heart shattering again. But I had to tell her. She was one of my best friends and I had no choice.
"What happened, Tink?" Fawn asks softly. "I'm sorry for scaring you."
I shake my head and her face turns to one of disbelief.
"But I am! Tink, you know I would never-"
"It wasn't you." I say quietly, cutting her off. "It was ... something else."
Fawn curses under her breath and I sit there, sipping my warm milk.
"Tell me you didn't." She begs quietly, not looking at me. "Tell me you didn't go and see him."
"That depends who he is."
Fawn looks at me dubiously.
"Fine." I sigh. "I went to get my hammer."
"And that's why you came back after hours, with Terrance?"
"I went to get my hammer, but was so happy to see Peter again that I decided to stay a few days. At least, until we had a row and I left."
Fawn raises an eyebrow knowing there was more than I was saying.
"We went to get his shadow - again - and it was in the Darling's street. In a room belonging to a girl who looked just like Wendy." I say the name so venomously, that Fawn flinched and I blink, both of us surprised by the amount of venom in Wendy's name. "I wanted to kill her. I really did. Peter got his shadow, but woke the girl. She was just like her, Fawn. Just like her. I tried to get him out before he could, but it was in vain. It's always in vain. He saw her, wanted her. We had a huge row back at the hideout and the Lost Boys were with me. Peter got so annoyed that he threw a pillow. Straight at me."
"No..." Fawn breathes.
"I couldn't move. It hit me, pushed me to the wall, pinned me for seconds, fell, and pinned me against the floor, re-damaging my wing. Then I left. Not before I saw his face. His eyes were mad, cold and he looked ready to kill, Fawn. I think he would've said the words if I'd stayed."
"I'm so, so sorry, Tink," Fawn says to me wrapping an arm around my shoulders tenderly and pulling me toward her.
I notice how gentle she was being, avoiding contact with my wing.
"Terrance fixed it."
"What?"
"The wing. He fixed it up."
"Okay. Right, Clarion's right. You need to rest. I'll grab you a blanket and you can get some sleep. I'll get one of the others to deal with newbie."
