So I have read a decent amount of books on this app and as much as I love the conveniency and length of these books. There is also some repetition...
(If you use this app to read books other than romantic books then this chapter doesn't questions you.)
There are a couple main consistencies in the plot of the majority of the books I read. Firstly, there is the situation is which the main character is kidnapped. Then, there is the situation where the main character is in a car accident. Of course there has to be one more horrific incident either in the main character or their significant other past. Even the "I have a rare disease" doesn't fully show the depth of ones character. While both of these events are meant to be moving and tragic, due to the lack of connection with the characters. These scenarios tend to be tacky or basic.
If you are able to provide an emotional connection and make the audience want to cry, then I believe that you have the right to use this method. However I would say 99% of authors aren't quite advanced for that just yet. If this is the case then try and find a more creative way to attract the readers.
Now. In order to fix this need to make a sudden change in your book. Think about something that personally relates to you. All relationships aren't perfect, but there are faults. Do NOT make the couple split up. Do NOT make the couple have strains on their relationship.
Then again, there are some readers that love the corny romantic tragics. However, some advice for the future writing career people. If you want to stand out, put something creative and something that may even be close to the heart to start.

Also... don't you dare use a time skip. That is lazy and uncreative. I believe better in you to make those transitions. That is where most writer in the professional industry struggle. You got this boys!
