JAYDEN POV

"HAYES-" I yelled. But I was too late. He had been hit.

Oh God. Oh God.

I ran out in to the road, and knelt down by him.

"HELP! HELP SOMEONE CALL 9-1-1!" I screamed.

A girl with dark, wavy hair ran out of Hayes' car, and ran to us. She immediately dialed 9-1-1, and we sat on the road next to Hayes. He had a cut down his forehead, and his stomach was bleeding, his knee looked out of place as well.

"Oh my gosh," I said, crying.

"Are you his girlfriend?" The girl asked.

"No. His best friend," I said, crying.

"Im so sorry," She whispered, coming close to me, and wrapping her arms around me.

We sat there sobbing for awhile, until we heard ambulances coming.

"Excuse me ladies, we're gonna have to ask you to step to the side," The paramedics said.

"No! I'm staying by his side!" I cried.

"No, ma'm please. If you don't move so we can operate on him, he will die," Said the paramedic.

I understood, and moved so I was out of the way. They picked him up, and stuck him on a gurney. They walked him in to the ambulance, and set him on a table.

"Would you like a ride to the hospital?" The paramedic asked me, and the other girl.

"Yes," We both said in unison, and hopped on to the ambulance.

I stood by Hayes, holding his hand. I can't believe this is happening. I texted my mom to tell her what was happening, and to come to the hospital.

We rode in silence, with only the beeps, and honks of the medical machines.

We arrived at the hospital, and we all jumped out. The paramedics told us to wait in the waiting room, because they had to operate on him. I didn't like not being by his side, but he had to be helped.

"So, what's your name?" The girl asked, putting down her magazine.

"Jayden. Yours?" I said.

"Penny."

"How do you know Hayes?" I asked.

"I'm his ex-girlfriend," She said, with her face heating up.

"Oh."

"Yup."

Talk about awkward. Why was his ex-girlfriend with him? Are they back together? I shouldn't care so much, I'm just a friend of Hayes. I had so many questions, that my head was spinning.

"Jayden? Jayden!" My mom yelled, rushing towards me.

I stood up, and melted in to her arms. I couldn't contain my tears any longer. Then, the waterworks happened.

"Shhh. Honey, he's gonna be okay," She whispered, stroking my hair.

I pulled away. "Mom this is all my fault. That should've been me."

She kept silent, and pulled me back in to her arms.

"It's not your fault, baby. Don't ever think that. All you can do is hope, and pray, baby girl," My mom said, kissing me on the forehead.

We sat back down, and saw Hayes' dad rush in. He quickly walked over to us.

"Oh my God. Is Hayes okay?" Hayes' dad asked, tears rolling down his cheeks.

"We're not sure," My mom said, with a frown.

I stood up, and wrapped my arms around Mr.. Court.

"We're here for you, and for Hayes," I whispered.

"Thank you," Mr. Court said, pulling away, and siting beside
my mom.

Mr. Court didn't say anything. He didn't look too well.

"Um, excuse me? Mr. Court?" A short, doctor with gray hair, and glasses asked.

"Yes, here!" Mr. Court exclaimed.

The doctor motioned for them to go by him. I watched his facial expressions as they talked with the doctor. He didn't look too happy.

I stood up, and ran over to them.

"What's wrong with him? Can you fix him?" I cried.

"Who are you?" The doctor asked, shooting me a weird look.

"Uh... His girlfriend," I said, panicking.

"Well, you may want to sit down for this," The doctor said, with a sad smile.

I sat in a nearby chair.

"Hayes is in a coma. His ribs were broken, and his knee dislocated. He possibly could've had brain damage. We're not sure. But, all we can do now is wait until he wakes up," The doctor explained.

"How long until he wakes up?" I asked.

"It could be days, weeks, even months. It really depends," The doctor said.

I put my head in my hands, and tears rolled down my cheeks.

"Can I see him?" I asked.

"Sure."

Mr. Court followed the doctor to his room, and I followed him.

He was laying there, with a cast on his ribcage, and a cast on his leg. I lost my breath just looking at him. This can't be happening.

I rushed over, and sat in the chair by him. I held on to his limp, cold hands, and started to cry.

Mr. Court stood there crying, and shaking their head.

"Would you like some alone time with him?" Mr. Court asked.

"If that's alright with you."

"Okay. I'll be in the waiting room."

I gave him a grateful smile as he walked out.

"Hayes. Please don't leave me," I sobbed, "Not yet."

I sat there in silence, and thought about how bad everything would be without him.

I stayed there for days. Sitting with him. Missing school. My mom knew how much he meant to me, and she called my school and said I was sick. I tried everything to get him awake. Telling him stories. Talking to him. Playing with his hands. Tickling him. Singing to him. Kissing his cheek. Laying by him. I just don't understand.

I became good friends with his nurse, and she helped me through this. Her name is Kate.

"Hey Jayden," Kate said, walking in with my lunch.

"Hey Kate," I said, giving her a sad smile.

"It'll get better, Jay. Have you tried kissing him yet? Ya know, like sleeping beauty?" Kate suggested jokingly.

I stifled a laugh.

"Do it," She said.

"I don't know."

"What are you gonna lose?" Kate joked.

I stood up, and leaned over him. He was so attractive. He had gorgeous eyes, lips that I just want to kiss all day,
and brown messy hair.

I leaned down, and gently collided my lips with his. It was weird, because he wasn't responding to me. But then, all of sudden he was.
