I was walking down the street, the song playing in my headphones were blaring. It was Saturday after all, two days later after the incident... Damn, I hate thinking about it. Just by that simple scene, my life went into an overdrive. Like literally. It went from being surrounded by his fans, to harsh whispers and comments, then to bullying. Luckily, I have Gumi, Rin, and SeeU by my side. If it wasn't for them, I would've been the punching bag of Kaito's fans for the past two days.
Speaking of Gumi, I found her walking in the same street as me, a few paces ahead. She looked like in a hurry. Where was she headed off to? Why was she walking in the same street as me? I didn't want to bother her, but my curiousity got the best of me. I ran to her and jumped on her back.
"Hey Gumi-chan!" I said while jumping on her back. "A-waah!" she let out a surprised cry. As she tried to balance the both of us, I noticed what she was holding: a bouqet of white and red roses. "Hey Gumi, whose flowers are those for? Someone special?" I asked as I got off her back. Gumi's face went red as a tomato. I gasped. Could that really be for someone special? I thought. But when I turned to look at her, there were tears in her eyes. I've... never seen Gumi cry before. Just seeing her breaking down in front of me...
"Gumi-chan... what's wrong?" I asked her. "Ah- It's nothing." "No Gumi-chan. Just tell me."
She stood there silently, wiping away her tears. I was about to apologize when she replied:
"It's for Sonika."
I stood there for a moment, slowly processing what she said. Oh crap! How could I have forgotten about Sonika's death anniversary? Well, Sonika-nee was Gumi-chan's older sister after all. Maybe that's why Gumi was crying. Gumi was headed to the cemetery and the way to the cemetery was by going through my street...
"Mind if I join you Gumi-chan?"
"Yeah, sure I guess. It's nice to have company when your visiting a dead relative" she added bitterly. I can tell how upset she is from Sonika-nee's death. Even though it's been a year since the car accident, she is still burning with anger. Plus, the driver who crashed was released from jail last month so Gumi-chan does have a right to be upset. Since the accident, Gumi has been living alone. Yep, that's right. Living alone. Her parents died in a plane explosion. After that, she lost Sonika-nee to a car accident. Ever since that, Gumi has been as cold and emotionless. She even stopped saying formalities such as 'chan' or 'senpai' or something.
"Miku, we're here" Gumi said, interrupting my train of thoughts. We stopped on front of a small gray tombstone. Gumi knelt down and placed the bouqet inside a stone like vase attached to the grave. I looked at the grave and examined what it said.
Sonika Megpoid
Born: July 10, 1995
Died: December 3, 2013
She will always be remembered in our hearts as a loving and caring daughter and sibling."Wish you were here Nikka. Too bad you won't be seeing me graduate though," Gumi paused for a second, biting her tongue to hold back the tears. "But wherever you are, I'm sure you can see me graduate... Right, Onee-chan?" Gumi dropped to her knees and her tears were streaming down her face.
"Gumi," I said softly. My heart was beginning to break because of this. I slowly kneeled down and wrapped my arms around my friend. "It's alright. It's gonna be alright." I whispered comforting words in her ears.
~Time Lapse: 27 Minutes Later...~
We were soon eating at a nearby Starbucks after that dramatic scene.
"Gumi-chan, are you sure you're alright now?" I couldn't help but ask. I was pretty worried for her, you know.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just stop asking me that 'cause that question is pissing me off." Gumi said with a slight smirk on her face. That's Gumi-chan! My swearing, half-American, sorta-boyish friend!
"Miku, I gotta ask ya somethin." she said, twirling the cup she had in her hand. I hummed in response, signaling her to go on.
"When you fell into Kaito's arms, I saw that gaze you guys held." Gumi said nonchalantly. "You were blushing as well. Tell me, did you feel something after that?"
At first, I thought she meant me to feel something else. But when I realized what she said, I felt a blush on my cheeks and began to stutter like a middle schooler trying to confess. Gumi began to laugh. "Okay okay! I get it! Just stop because I don't want you to get a heart attack 'cause of this!" I immediatly stopped, face red with embarrassment.
"Ya know, it's pretty obvious that you like him. Or even love him. We can already tell." Gumi said with a teasing smirk. I really hate Gumi when she shows her teasing side. I could hear Gumi chuckle annoyingly.
"Oh! And speaking of Kaito, he's here." I whirled around in my seat, making sure what Gumi said was true. Apparently it was. Kaito was entering the café with his younger sister Kaiko. I hate to say this, but his little sister likes my friend here beside me. But I have a feeling she's obsessed with her because she stalks Gumi 24/7. So when Kaiko browsed the area and spotted my friend, the blue-haired girl's face immediately brightened. It seems like Gumi noticed it too because she shrank into her seat with a sort-of-frightened face. Kaito seemed to notice where Kaiko was staring because when he noticed Gumi, he noticed me as well. Our eyes met again, but as soon as the gaze started, it ended. Kaito and Kaiko began to approach us.
"Hey, what's up Gumi?" Kaito said as Gumi stood up and high-fived him. Wait a second... They were friends? "Gumi-chan, you're friends with Kaito?"
Gumi chuckled. "Yeah. Childhood friends actually." I sat there, my mouth wide open and eyes bulbing like a fish. How come she never told me?
"Well, that's because you never asked." Gumi said, completely reading my thoughts. People say that Gumi can read a person's thought just by looking at their expression. Well, I guess that's true now. Gumi looked at her watch.
"Oh look at the time! I gotta leave now. I'll leave you guys to talk." Gumi said, saying the last part with a knowing tone. "Oooh! Can I come?" Kaiko asked. Gumi looked behind her for a moment before saying she can. Kaiko happily skipped to her side and began walking out the door. As Gumi opened the door, she turned around and winked at me. After that, she left, leaving me and Kaito alone.
Oh boy. This was going to be a long and akward talk.
