Hallo, and welcome to The Lake! I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. This is all my own work, so pls no copying :)

Comments would be much appreciated, even if they're only to tell me that my story is awful and I should never try and write again. ;)

There will be mild swearing and sexual references.

Apologies for bad spelling/typos/grammar.

The Lake: Chapter 1

I threw my last pair of shorts into the pile before sitting back to survey my work. Tomorrow, I'd be heading out to The Lake, something I'd been looking forwards to since I'd first started at Montgomery High. Where all of the just-graduated students in my year headed out to Elspeth Lake, a stunningly beautiful spot several miles deep into the forest.

I began to stuff all of my clothes into my bag, before strapping on my sleeping mat and bivvi bag.(A waterproof bag that goes over your sleeping bag allowing you to say dry). Most people would take a tent, but I liked sleeping under the stars and preferred to travel light.

My phone buzzed with a text, from my best friend, Stella.

Stella: still sure you don't want a lift?

I smiled and texted her back.

Mackenzie: still sure. Just fill the space with extra food.

I wasn't sure why I so hated the idea of her giving me a lift, along with my other two friends, Sarah and Aliya. But they all had boyfriends, and I didn't feel that I could be blamed for not wanting to spend a two-hour car journey with them discussing how they were going to do in the traditional chicken fight.

That reminded me, the chicken fight. I gave a gulp of horror. I didn't have a boyfriend, and there was no way I could pluck up the courage to ask some random guy. The only option I had left was to win the race-to-the-island, as the fastest girl and fastest boy always had to be chicken-fight-partners. To be honest, that sounded far easier than asking boys out. Besides, I wanted to win the swimming race anyway.

Tense, nervous and so, so exited, I only just managed to drift off to sleep that night.

a/n: sorry that that was such a short first chapter, the others will be longer I promise! Anyway, hope that your enjoying it and sorry for such a rubbish start. It gets more exiting!

pls comment/vote/whatever you like ;)

Thanks for reading!

Cassie
