CHAPTER FOURTEEN
FEBRUARY 13TH, THURSDAY
BRANDON HYNES
● ● ●
"Is this Brandon Hynes?"
"Yes. Who is this?"
"Hi, this is Richard, store manager at Ross. I'm calling because I received your application and was wondering if you could come in for an interview today?"
Ross? I applied to so many jobs last month that I didn't even remember applying to that store.
"An interview? Today?"
"Yes. Can you not make it?"
"Oh no! I can make it! I'm just happy. You don't know how long I've been waiting for a callback."
"That's good to hear. What time do you think you could come in?"
"I can come in as soon as you want me to."
"Does noon sound good?"
"It sounds perfect. Thank you!"
"See you then."
"Yes. You too."
"Bye."
The phone hung up and I leaped out of bed punching the air while Zach was soundly asleep. I had to share the good news. "Zachary! Wake yo ass up!"
He groaned and threw his blankets over his face. "Leave me alone."
"Zach! I said, getcho ass up! I have good news!"
"Screw you and your good news. I'm tryna sleep so shut the hell up."
"I'm just gonna say it. I got an interview today!"
It was silent for a moment. "You're lying? Say swear."
"I swear!"
He pulled the blankets from over his face and turned to me as he rubbed his eyes and yawned. Then he smiled. "Where at?"
"Ross. I don't know what the starting pay is, but I don't care. I just need a job."
"Congrats bro! I'm happy for you. Now we can start having groceries again, and you can cook me some food!"
I laughed. "Is that the main reason why you're happy for me?"
"Heck yes! Also, I can finally buy them Jordans that I want."
"True."
"What time is the interview?"
"Noon."
Zach stretched his arm out and grabbed his phone that sat on the nightstand. He yawned as the bright light of his phone shined in his face. "It's 10:30 so you got time."
"Bro, I'm about to get ready now and show up early. I need this damn job! I'm tired of asking for money and using my FASFA leftovers."
"With yo broke ass."
I laughed and then grabbed my pillow. "You won't be able to say that for long." I threw my pillow at his face. "Bitch."
"Bro!" He shouted as he shot out of bed to throw the pillow back at me.
I caught it. "Pussy."
He flipped me off. "Whore."
I tossed my pillow on my bed before I grabbed a pair of underwear and socks from my drawer. Meanwhile, Zach was scrolling on his phone. "I don't even know if I have an outfit for the interview."
