Chapter Four: Mama

El finished packing up some stuff as Bruce sat in the doorway with a worried look.

"El are you sure this is the best option, last night wasn't the happiest and this time you're leaving even longer than last time"

She didn't answer as she finished packing and turned to him with a dead expression which caused him to sigh

"I'm just worried about losing you. I don't want to lose the one person in the world that matters to me"

El's face became soft as she heard his words before walking up to him and tightly hugging him which he returned with twice the force. The two stood in silence as they held each other in their arms, finally, El spoke

"I'll stay by you, forever"

"....Thank you"

The two separated before El made her way to the front door, stopping to look at Bruce

"Will you come?"

Bruce smiled at this and started to chuckle "At least ask me to dinner first"

El looked confused but Bruce waved his hand before grabbing his trench coat and walking to the door with her, closing it behind them. On the way, El thought about something and asked the boy next to her

"Bruce"

He turned his head to her with a hum

"Why come with me? There's no reason"

Bruce seemed to be surprised at the question

"Well, I want to make sure nothing happens to you. I know you can take care of yourself but I want to be sure."

El smiled at him and looked forward and kept walking as he id the same

Once to the road El looked either way and seemed to be thinking

"How do we find it?"

Bruce looked at her and put a thumbs up out to the road as he heard a truck "We hitchhike"

The truck slowed down to a stop before the driver opened the door "You kids okay?"

Bruce nodded "We're okay, but we need a ride back home. We rode our bikes out here but they broke on our way home"

Even though the lie had loopholes the trucker seemed to be nice and accepted it, he must some but of Canadian. 

"Alright, climb in. I'll take you two home"

The two climbed in with Bruce the middle to separate El and the trucker

"So where do you need to go?"

Bruce turned to El who seemed ready for the question

"Five-Fifteen Larrabee"

The man chuckled and moved his hat "Lucky you, that's on my way. I'll bring you there"

With that, the man put the truck into drive and started their way to El's home. Somewhere she was desperate to be.

The ride was quiet with the occasional question from the man, after some time the truck stopped in front of a dirt road that led into the forest. El lifted her head from Bruce's shoulder as he looked outside, the silence was broken by the trucker

"Five-One-Five Larrabee, right?"

Bruce nodded as El stared out the window "Yeah, thank you for the ride"

El opened the door and got out with Bruce close behind, but stopped at the words of the man

"Hey"
