CASEY'S P.O.V:

I gently pulled Sasha's limp and life less body out of the cold water. I carefully dragged her onto the banks of the lake, before checking for her heart beat. It wasn't a surprise for me to find that she had none. I began to cry silently. I put my head down and repeated "no no no" to the quiet trees. My heart sank to my stomach at the daunting realization, of my best friend being dead.

I started to hyperventilate. My breathe became short gasps for precious air. Sasha. Dead. Here. In front of me. Everything began to spin. My whole world came crashing down. Being a paranormal hunter was definitely going to be hard if it meant that I'd have to deal with the people I love dying.

I calmed right down and put my head on straight. Sasha's family needed me to be strong. Chelsea needed me to be strong. My parents needed me to be strong.

I needed me to be strong.

I picked Sasha up easily and headed into the forest, in search of Casey. Sasha was no longer alive, meaning her soul would be on it's way to the afterlife. That explained why she was so light. The better a person is, the heavier their soul. Sasha was the best person I had ever met, no wonder her soul brought such weight. This made me think about my soul. Was it weak and heavy? Or strong and light?

It didn't matter at the moment anyways. I shook my head to clear the thoughts that had abducted my brain. I looked at my best friend in my arms, looking so calm and content. I then saw red scratches on Sasha's delicate arms. They lined her whole fore arm in rows of horrible looking marks. I reached out and touched one. They were raw.

My suspicion had been proven. Sasha's death wasn't accidental. Someone or something had drowned her.

Everything clicked into place after that revelation. I needed to find Chelsea so she could help me carry Sasha back to the house and so we could continue our search. I needed to do a lot. My job wasn't just about killing monsters, although it was part of my job. If the crime included murder, I had to brake the news to the important people in those victims lives.

In this case, Sasha's parents.

I placed Sasha's peaceful corpse onto the ground, and ran further back into the woods. "Chelsea! Chelsea!" I yelled frantically. I tripped over logs and swore out loud, but I continued looking for my co-worker.

"I'm here Case! Did you find her? Is she ok?" Chelsea said in a rush as she stepped out from under a bush. She was out of breathe and looked extremely hopeful. I didn't want to ruin that hope, but there was none.

I looked at my feet nervously. "I found her, but we were too late. I found her dead in a lake a short distance from here."

I burst into tears. Chelsea embraced me in a hug and she soon joined me in my mourning. It wasn't awkward or odd, rather comforting really. My best friend had just died and I was the one to find her. That is a lot to take in and handle on my own.

We pulled back from the hug, wiped our tears away and promised to stay strong for Sasha in this moment. Chelsea and Sasha never got along, but it didn't matter, Chelsea was still upset and shaken up from Sasha's death. What made the situation worse was that Chelsea and My job was to protect humans from these dangerous creatures.

I led Chelsea back to Sasha's body and as I walked closer to the lake, I saw a glimpse of a tail and scales and a inhuman face stared back at me with an evil and playful grin on it's face. Chelsea saw it to and we both looked at each other before saying "Siren."

It was so obvious. How could I have not put the pieces together sooner? Sirens were the evil form of a Mermaid. They summoned ghosts to posses human souls and lead them into the water. Then the Sirens would drown their victim. Horrible creatures.

That explained why Sasha kept seeing shadows and things that were clearly not normal. They were ghosts. It also explained how Sasha drowned in hip high water and why I had seen a tail and scales in the exact lake Sasha had drowned in.

Chelsea and I gently grabbed Sasha's body and brought her back to the house. Neither of us talked the whole way back. My body may have been present, but my mind was in a world of it's own.

I couldn't do this! My job was scary and dangerous, unpredictable and daring. I was worried about my new found career that I was just born into. I didn't have a choice. My mother had said that I wasn't a full human and that I was born to do this. It was in my blood.

I looked at Sasha with teary eyes. I would bring justice to this. No one deserved to die at such a young age.

But what made it worse, was the fact that Sasha had been possessed and basically murdered. Nothing could get away with such a horrid dead.
