Author's Note:

This oneshot is extremely short, but I really wanted to update this book. It's been a while.

Enjoy.

She wakes up, she sips lightly, she goes too far, she gets dizzy, she cries, and when her tears are dried, she goes back to sleep. This dangerous cycle repeats itself, slowly eating away at the girl. Where did she go? Who was she before her broken heart? Finral wondered when he'd finally see a spark of life in her (e/c) eyes. He attached himself to her, acting as a talisman. Despite her tendency to push him away, he never left. Somewhere along the way, he fell for her. It broke his heart to see her stumble through the hideout's doors at night in a drunken state of mind. Desperately, he wanted to save her.

Finral's Point of View:

"(Y/n)? Are you awake?" I peer into the dark room she lies in, cautious with my movements. Her muffled whimpers come to a halt as I catch her attention.

"Finral? What are you doing here?" she whispers as if she hadn't shed a tear. To get a better look at me, she turns on a lantern. We're now in a dimly lit room...all alone.

"Why are you crying?" I ask, taking a seat on the edge of her mattress.

Her eyes widen a bit and she begins to fidget around. There's a lingering silence, but I patiently await her response.

"I'm just tired," she chuckles dryly. "When I'm tired, I cry for no reason."

Yes, this is true about her. Still, I'm not satisfied with her answer, so I ask again, "Why are you really crying?"

Her (l/c) lips quiver for a moment. "I feel sick. My body's sore, I'm nauseous, I can't sleep, I'm shaking, and my head is pounding. Even so, the things on my mind are a lot more taunting. Everything hurts, Finny."

I want to hold her in a protective embrace, but I don't want to overstep my boundary. She's already closed-off as it is. After a second of hesitation, I ask, "Is it alright if I hug you? I don't bite. I promise."

She laughs a little before spreading her arms for me. I gladly move closer, holding her close to my chest.

"(Y/n), I want you to get some sleep. I'll stay here with you if you'd like," I suggest.

She nods, snuggling closer to me. "That'd be nice."

Taking one last look at her angelic face, I leave a gentle kiss on her forehead. "Goodnight, (Y/n)."

"Goodnight, Finny."

If this is all I can do, for now, that's okay. Day by day, we'll get through this together...and eventually, we'll find the remedy for a broken heart.

End.
