Prince

"We gotta keep working on this. What's wrong with you guys?" I asked them. We were drenched in sweat from dancing and I was getting aggravated that they were messing up. "Yo, Prince. We're tired man." Dez told me. I shook my head rubbing between my eyes. "We gotta get this down in two weeks! He could change it at any-" the phone rang and everyone sat down for a second. I went to the phone hanging on the wall and answered it. "Hello?" "Hey, you need to come to the hospital now. Bring Divinity's friend." It was Wade. "What? Why?" "Divinity's sick. Really sick. You need to come down here, now." I didn't ask any questions. Lisa walked over. "What's wrong? Who was that?" "Divinity's sick. We gotta go to the hospital." Lisa turned around "Matt! You're coming with us! I don't want to be lied to by some quacks." We got our coats on and went to Lisa's car. Wendy wasn't coming with us and Dez, Brown Mark, and Bobby stayed at the club. I was driving. "What do you think is wrong with her?" I shook my head. "I don't know but I'm fucking-" "Slow down! Jesus, Prince you're going to put us in the hospital!" "I don't want him with her! What if he hurts her or something." "Look, we saw her last week and she seemed cool. You saw her the other day. How'd she look?" I stopped at the red light. "I don't know. She said her stomach was cramping I just thought it was normal." "Maybe it's appendicitis or something." Matt said. We got to the hospital and went in to see Wade in the waiting room he got up when he saw us. "Hey, what's going on? Is she okay?" I asked. "Listen, I ain't blaming shit on you, but she's going through a lot right now. She's with her mom because her dad had a trip to go on." "Don't blame Prince." Lisa got in front of me. "Stop beating around the fucking bush and tell us what's going on!" "Excuse me." A nurse said. We all looked at the nurse that was walking up. "Who's the boyfriend?" She asked. "I am." I said and Wade glanced at me. "Delphine's mother wants to speak to you." I felt my heart sink and I just followed the nurse. "Is-Is she okay? Is something wrong?" "Your girlfriend is suffering a miscarriage. Unfortunately, the embryo is stuck in her tubules so we have to perform a procedure to get the embryo out." I don't know what happened, I just went stiff and I couldn't speak. It was getting hard to walk as I felt my body sort of shake, but then again I felt my heart aching and beat faster all at once. We walked to another waiting room where Divinity's mother was there and she was crying. She came over and hugged my neck and the nurse walked away. "Prince, I'm glad you could come. She needs you." She pulled away and we sat down. "What's going on? Wade said-" "Wade is...I can't believe what's going on with him. I didn't know that they were together." "Listen, ma'am. I need to know what's been going on. She seemed fine just the other day." She took a deep breath. "It started that night when she started bleeding. It was all over her, all over her sheets her bed...it was bad. I offered to call you, but she didn't want you to worry." I was already worried, I could hear Camille wanting to come out. "Wade said you wouldn't be able to handle it. Delphine went to Wade to talk to him about her being sick." Divinity was always good at lying to her mother, but this was something she couldn't lie about. She went to Wade's so she wouldn't go to me and worry me and she was trying to keep it hidden from her mother. Then, the doctor walked in with a clipboard. "She can see visitors, but one at a time." I looked at her mother and she nodded for me to go. I followed the doctor and he lead me to Divinity's room. She was on her side laying down staring at the wall. I came over to her and the doctor shut the door right as I was sitting down. "Baby?" I whispered. I put my hand on the back of her head stroking her hair and I leaned down to kiss her cheek. It was like I brought her out of her staring gaze and she looked at me. I saw tears welling up and she curled up around me sobbing into my side. I felt responsible for this, all of this. "I'm so sorry." I said trying not to cry. I needed to be strong for her. "I-I wanna go home." She stuttered. I felt horrible. She laid down and I laid on the other side so I wouldn't lay on her IV." Divinity put her arms around me and held me and I had my arms around her. "I'm sorry." She said through her sobs. "N-No baby. No. I'm sorry. This is my doing and we could've prevented this." I felt my tears falling and I quickly buried my head in her shoulder. I couldn't help but start sobbing and she sobbed, too. In the midst of our sobs, we fell asleep together.
