It was a rainy day when I woke up not to bad so I walked to the barn with my rain coat on and saw that nutmeg wasn't up like she used to I looked into her stall and noticed she was breathing heavily, trying to stand but couldn't I was worried as hell so I pushed the door open and went to her side I was wondering if this was the last day for her I brushed her mane with my hand and tried to encourage her to stand. But no luck.
Tears rolled down my face. This was my dads horse she's what I have left, not now please. I thought to myself just a couple more days and I'll be okay with that I pleaded.
I put nutmegs head in my lap and knew she won't make it any longer she's too old
I called the vet and told them what's happening they said they would be over. I hung up and cried even more
I'm gonna miss you Nutmeg... dad always loved you you were his girl you know that I loved you you were a good girl a very good girl.
She closed her eyes taking her last breath
"Goodbye girl". I whisperedI took her head out of my lap as the vet came there was nothing they could possibly do now.
I covered her body as the vets brought her outside
I called the old ranch hand to help me bury her.He came shortly after taking out a shovel making a hole in the ground big enough for her.
I burred her right next to Dixon. We stood there for a while but the silence was broken as I said
"I take you up on the offer I'm in for the school"
He looked at me and said, " great I can take you now".I got in the truck with him as he blasted some country music driving down the road as he made it to a English riding school it was beautiful
(Pictures below).A stable with over 50 stalls and more and a huge paddock with fancy horses,I got out in shock.
