"That's TODAY? Max Modell is coming to school TODAY? How do I look?"
"Pretty rattled for a guy who's not interested in applying,"
"No, I just-! I mean...it's Max Modell, he's my idol! I know everything about him. I even volunteered to come in early and help set up on the day, oh NO, I volunteered to come in early and help set up TODAY! Liz Allen is gonna KILL me!"
Peter grabbed his bag and shot out the cafe door. He could NOT believe he was actually late for the assembly's setup. Max Modell was coming over to select candidates for Horizon High, the number one school for genius kids like him. He wanted nothing more than to go, but he knew tuition would be too much for him and his Aunt May to handle. Still, it was an exciting thought that Max was actually coming to Midtown to look for eligible students.
Nonetheless, being late when he offered to come in and help set up for the assembly was NOT a good first impression. On top of that, his lack of athleticism didn't help any when getting there fast.
Peter raced through the busy streets of New York City. He could see Midtown in the distance and was just about to pick up the pace when a girl suddenly crossed in front of him. His eyes widened and he tried to stop himself, but inertia was not on his side today. He crashed headlong into her, bag and contents flying.
"Owwww..." he groaned in pain, only finding the strength to get on all fours. "Sorry about that, I-" he cut off when he caught a glimpse of the face he had collided with. The ginger eyes, black hair, and splatter-like scar on her neck were unmistakable. "W-Wait a minute...I've seen you before. Aren't you that-?"
The girl didn't give him a chance to finish before smashing a palm onto his face, pushing him off of her. "What is WRONG with you?! Don't you know that a human can run up to 28 mph?! At that speed, colliding with someone could've done serious cranial damage, or at least caused a broken limb!"
"I said I was sorry, I didn't mean to--wait. Did you just calculate the speed and force of motion in less than five seconds?"
"I did, what's it to you?"
"N-Nothing, I was just shocked that--No, wait, 'shocked' isn't the right word, I meant amazed. I-I mean, I didn't really expect a quick equation breakdown from a stranger and--Agh! Wait, that didn't come out right either-"
The girl huffed and got to her feet, picking up her denim messenger bag. "I swear, if the vibranium I'm carrying in this thing is broken, I'm breaking your balls the next time I see you," she growled. With one last cold stare, she heel-turned and walked off, disappearing into the crowd and leaving Peter sitting on the sidewalk in absolute wonder.
"What...the heck just happened?"

Peter fumbled with his web-shooters, trying to reprogram the temperature threshold in the mechanism so that it would work better. In all honesty, he was trying to get his mind off that girl he bumped into earlier.
Peter had seen her before. She was at Oscorp on the day of the field trip when he was bitten by the radioactive spider. When they first met, she looked like if she had been bitten by something bigger and badder, but he hadn't been able to get anything out of her, not even her name. What were the chances that they would bump into each other again after two weeks?
"Parker!" a shout from outside the science lab brought Peter out of his thoughts. He quickly closed his laptop and swept that and his web shooter into his backpack. A redhead named Liz Allen strode through the door, looking miffed. "You know you missed it."
"I know..." Peter apologized. "I'm sorry, Liz, but once I missed it, I figured I'd just catch up on some schoolwork."
"You're always in the wrong place at the wrong time, Parker! Luckily, Randy was here to help,"
