You and Namjoon have been close friends since middle school. You always liked the unique perspective he had on the world, and he could still amaze you - even now when you're both 25 years old. He appreciated the little things in life most people would overlook. Every now and then, you two would get together and go on little adventures around town when he had time off from his busy schedule. Today was one of those rare days.
I'll be at your door in 5, remember your camera. - Joonie
You smiled as you read the text message. Namjoon loved going around and finding places to take pictures, and you were his favorite photographer. You packed your camera and hurried out the door to wait for Namjoon.
He got there in no time and soon enough you two were on your way down the street to catch the bus. Unfortunately, neither of you could drive so you had to make the best of the city's public transportation system.
"So where do you want to go?" You asked, looking up at your friend who was at least a whole head taller than you.
"It's such a beautiful today, I wanted to go the big park with all the nature trails downtown. Is that ok?"
"Perfect." You agreed.
We finally reached the bus station and were on our way. The ride was pretty fast so we got off in 15 minutes and entered the enormous compound. Since it was the beginning of spring, flowers were in full bloom, the sun was high in the sky, and people wandered around the enormous expanse.
Joonie looked around and asked,"How about we follow a nature trail and take in the scenery?"
"Sounds great, lord knows I could use a bit of sun." With that, we both set off towards winding trails that encircled the entire park and allowed both of us to catch up on our lives.
Joonie was part of a huge musical group that took him all over the world and he decided to share some of the experiences along the way. He gushed over how proud he was of his group members and how they all took care of each other no matter the situation.
All of the places he had been and all the people he had met left you in awe of the man he's become since being that awkward little boy you met in the fifth grade. You had to admit that you would contact him once in a while to see how he was doing. Surprisingly you found that his group's music was truly inspiring.
You continued to walk until you didn't hear Namjoon's rambling anymore. You turn to find him frozen still with a butterfly sitting on his nose.
"Y/n! Take a picture before it leaves!" Namjoon whisper screams. You hastily uncap the lens of your camera a snap a picture without flash in order to not scare away the insect. You give a thumbs up and Namjoon seems to regain movement in his body and runs to you to see the picture.
"You really are a great photographer Y/n, now let's go see what else we find around here." His dimples make an appearance as he compliments you and both of you continue your stroll.
Every time you spot a pretty landscape, you tell Namjoon to hold still to capture his image. The thing is, he never looks at the camera. He's always either facing the opposite way or looking down at his shoes. The pictures are aesthetically pleasing, but it makes you sad to not see Namjoon's dimpled cheeks or shining eyes in your camera roll.
"Joonie look UP for once," you huff as you see that once again he's staring at his shoes.
"But my face is gonna break your camera," he frowns and you walk to his side.
"Don't say that, come on, let's take a picture together and you'll see how pretty it'll turn out."
You turn the camera to face both of you while reminding Namjoon to look at the camera this time.
"Fine," he grumbles.
"And smile!"
You snap multiple shots and decide to make the last ones silly.
"Dramatic pose!" You exaggerate your features and put a hand over your forehead.
"Silly faces!" You stick out your tongue and watch Namjoon follow suit.
"Alright, last one, now superhero!" Namjoon raises his fist in a Superman-like pose and you stare ahead seemingly looking for a savior.
"Alrighty, let's see them." You huddle around the device with Namjoon and burst into a fit of giggles as you take in the images on the screen.
Both of you are doubled over from laughing so much that you begin to gather stares from strangers on trail. Once you calm down enough, Namjoon offers to buy ice cream for you both and you head towards the ice cream stand at the end of the trail.
"Ok, Y/n what flavor do you want?"
"Um..." You hesitate scanning the list of different choices. You spot your ultimate favorite flavor - mint chocolate chip.
Now, you've known Namjoon long enough to know that he's hated mint chocolate since he was young; nonetheless, you absolutely loved it. You also knew his blatant refusal to buy the treat . So, you came up with an idea.
As you approached the counter, you let Namjoon order first and immediately put your hands over his ears to tell the ice cream man what you wanted.
"Y/N! What are you doing?!" Namjoon struggles to get your hands off him and pay the man with you blocking his ear-ways.
You shrugged innocently as your friend took out some money to pay. When the ice cream cones were handed to him though, his eyes widen as he realizes what he's was holding.
"You! You knew I would've never payed for frozen tooth paste!"
You laugh and grab the cone before he could drop it. You shoot him a smug smile and skip to the nearest bench to enjoy the minty treat. Namjoon scoffs at your defiance and eventually makes his way next to you.
"Oh come on, I know I tricked you, but you must admit, you missed me." You smile at your friend as he rolls his eyes not answering.
Once you both finish eating, the sun is beginning to set, leaving the sky with different hues of purple, pink, and orange.
Satisfied with your day, you look up content at the mosaic of colors above your head and suddenly hear a shutter of a camera. You realize Namjoon just took a picture of you and instantly reach for your camera. He moves out of your reach and smiles at his work.
"Stoppp! Give it back!" You whine and try to maneuver your way around to get back your camera.
"Fine, just promise to not delete. It's too pretty to throw away."
He hands you the device and you refuse to even look at the picture.
"Come on Y/n, you took pictures for me, I was just returning the favor."
You appreciate the thought behind the gesture, but you weren't going to admit you were insecure over your side profile. Candids weren't your thing, especially when you were in the picture.
"Ok Joonie, let's just head home then, it's getting late."
He rose from his seat and helped you stand as you both made your way back to catch the bus home.
It didn't take long to make your way back home, but it was already dark once you made it to the front steps.
But before you go inside you turn to Namjoon.
"Thanks for an amazing day Joonie, I really missed you these couple of months, let's do this again when you have some time off."
Namjoon smiled at you. "I'm sorry it was just one day, but it's time to get back to reality. I have to go on tour again soon, but I'm glad we did this. I'll call you when I have some time because hanging out with you reminds me of my roots and helps keep me grounded."
Before you could let out another word, Namjoon reaches out to peck your cheek and makes his way back out to the street. His figure retreats into the darkness and you are left a blushing mess.
