He is only five years old, but poor Troye Sivan knows only a life of constant displacement. The feeling of being wholeheartedly and overwhelmingly undesired is one that haunts him from foster home to foster home. That is, until he is finally shuffled to a small town in Michigan, where a certain dirty blonde bespectacled boy named Tyler that is soon to be his best friend resides.

Tyler Oakley knows only a life of being abandoned. Constant bullying and shunning due to his rather flamboyant self pursuance, if you know what he means, has left him in a state of perpetual solitude. His life in Michigan is slowly driving him mad. That is, until a new outcast arrives in town. Tyler thinks of this as his perfect chance to befriend him, befriend this so called ‘lowlife orphan scrag’ that all the kids whisper about. Little did he know that he would be falling head over heels for none other than his impending friend, the tawny haired boy with the azure eyes that must be carved from sapphires, Troye Sivan. Sure, he’s only six, but Tyler knows when it’s more than a crush, and the boy has been hit by a monster truck of love. In the face. Several times. Nonetheless, the boys form a band of misfits, off on their journey of life, but this time, paired with an adorable sidekick to rely on. And rely on each other they did! Troyler, as the other kids coined, were glued at the hip, absolutely inseparable in practically everything that they did.

Fast forward two years, and Troye Sivan was ripped suddenly and painfully from the clutches of lovestruck Tyler, for he was being adopted! Troye was ecstatic at the news, for it meant he was actually wanted…

“Tyler! Tyler! Guess what? I bet you can’t guess huh? Well, I’ll just tell you. I’m getting adopted!”

“Oh hey Troye, would you grab me a grape Juicy Juice from the fridge please?”

"Did you hear that Tilly? I’m being adopted!”

 “Hm?”

“Adopted Ty, someone actually wants me! Someone wants ME. Me, Ty!”

“Troye that’s phenomenal! That’s my word of the day you know; phenomenal.”

“Duly noted. I can’t believe it though! Did you hear? Someone wants me!”

“I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t. You’re just near perfect.”

Troye raised his eyebrow. “Just near?”

“Someone that was perfect would get me a Juicy Juice…”

“Ty, you’re such a pain. I’ll get it later. Aren’t you happy though? Ahhh, this is so exci-”

“It’s phenomenal Tim Tam, phenomenal. You gotta remember that. ”

“Phenomenal. I’ll miss ya bunches though…”

“What do you mean you’ll miss me? Your foster parents are adopting you right? You’ll be right here!”

“…you didn’t know? I’m going to Australia, the land of the down under koalas or something like that. Who knows. I’m sure its not too far away. You could come visit and OOH what if I get an accent or something? That’s what Ms. Stevens told me the people had in Australia. What’s an accent in the first place? You know what, I don’t care, getting one would be pr-“

Tyler’s face paled, for he was the knowledgeable one of the two and knew that Australia was in fact nowhere near Michigan. “Troye. Australia is on the other side of the world.”

“That’s okay! I’ll write you every single day I promise. I’ll even call you too! And I’ll still visit. Nothing can keep me away from my Tilly.”

 “Promise?”

“Ty, my word is my word. You’re my best friend. And being on different planets wouldn’t be enough keep me away from you.”

And Tyler thought everything was okay. Perfect, even. The love of his life had hugged him numerous times as they exchanged numbers and address’ and made even more promises. And on that fateful day when Troye was waiting for his ride to the airport, they sat on Tyler’s driveway and held hands and Troye cried and cried and cried. It took every ounce of self restraint for Tyler to not start crying along with him. He had to be strong. For Troye, he thought.

“Now remember what you promised, mkay Tim Tam? Don’t leave me alone here.”

And the azure eyed boy looked straight into the ultramarine eyes of the other and smiled. “I promise.”

But promises can be broken, for the words uttered by Troye can only be bound in memories. And memories, to the much later realization of Tyler, can be forgotten.
