One Chance

Chapter 9

As we enter the house, I see Amanda and Mark seated on the sofa watching a reality show. I wave Toby to come with me to the kitchen . 

We enter the kitchen and I take two water bottles from the fridge and hand one to Toby. We both take a sip and I go tidy it up a bit while he has a look around. 

" So, what do you want to eat? " I ask, hoping it'll be something I have ingredients for. 

" I don't mind anything, I can help you with whatever you decide to make though", he replies with the sweetest smile I've seen. 

"Hahaha, well then we better ask the other two people what they want to eat too, or I'll never hear the end of it ", I say walking to the sofa with Toby close behind me. 

We both take a seat and that's when Amanda and Mark finally acknowledge our presence. 

" When did you guys come home? ", Mark says truly surprised. 

" Yeah, how come we didn't even hear a sound and how long has it been?", Amanda says looking at the both of us. 

" Well, it's only been a few minutes. You guys were too busy watching  Bachelor in paradise to even notice us." I say laughing. 

" So what do you want to eat", Toby suddenly says surprising all of us . 

" Oh right, yeah I was just about to ask you that ", I add. 

" Pizzaaaaaa", Amanda and Mark yell in unison. 

I take a look at Toby who gives me a nod in approval, and I concede. 

I get up to go place the order and when I return I see that the three of them have set up the Jenga tower. I guess we are playing this while we wait then I think to myself and go take a seat near them. 

We end up having four rounds and lucky for me Toby is as bad at it as I am.  Mark and Amanda do a victory dance once in a while which only makes Toby and I  give ourselves the side glare. 

The pizza finally arrives, and we devour it in no time. It comes down to the last piece which all of us hesitate to take. We stare at each other until Mark reaches over and grabs it. 

" Well, don't look at me, it was looking at me and I couldn't resist eating it. It would be a waste to just keep staring at it. " He says before finishing it off.  

We all erupt in laughter at that and the night progresses with us playing a few rounds of UNO which we all win a round each. 

" I think I should leave now. It's too late. “Toby says all of a sudden. 

I look at the watch and nod at him reluctantly. Not that I minded him going, but the day was so much fun, I just didn't want it to end. I cannot ask them to stay for a little while right, I say to myself.  

" I'll come with you too ", Mark says bringing me back from my thoughts. 

We all get up and I walk them to the door and watch them leave in their separate cars. I walk back inside and crash on the sofa sighing. 

" You know you still have me; you don't have to look so sad", I hear Amanda say and I can't help chuckle. 

" Yeah yeah I know. I guess I should help you clear all of this up now", I say slowly getting up and helping her. 

We finally finish clearing up everything and sit back down on the sofa. We decide to watch a movie because clearly neither of us want to sleep. 

As we are watching Me before you and bawling our eyes out towards the end, Amanda looks at me and goes " since he came home with you, I'm assuming the date went well". 

I wipe the last tear of my face and turn the tv off and finally look at Amanda. " It was perfect, I mean it planned it all out. We went to the lake. Amanda I can't tell you it was more than I could have imagined. " 

I tell her about it in detail until she gives me a hug and doesn't let go. I hug her back and we stay like that for a while. 

" I'm so happy for you Lucy. I mean I wanted this for you since forever. Toby seems like a nice guy and this makes me feel better that my best friend isn't falling for a psycho. You deserve it." She says finally breaking the hug. 

" Thank you, Amanda. I am happy too. I know it's still soon but I think he's the one. I don't want to Jinx it. " I say almost in tears again. 

While we are on the sofa I get a notification on my phone and I check to see that it's from Toby. 

It read, "I had a great time today. Mark is staying at my place now. I don't know if you are asleep or not but I wanted to say that it was fun. Goodnight! " 

" I had a good time too. Haha, have a fun night with Mark! Goodnight" I reply. 

" What's making you blush all of a sudden”, Amanda says making me look up from my phone. 

" Oh, just got a text from Toby. Did you know Mark is staying with him. "

" Yeah, I mean he told me he would be staying there before you guys came home. I guess he knew you both would come here. I made a bet with him regarding that. I lost sadly. I’m a little mad at you  about it but I know you'll make it up to me”, Amanda says and we laugh together. 

After a while we let out a collective yawn and go to our rooms to sleep. 

I quickly get ready for bed and fall asleep as soon   as I lay down. 

The night goes on and everything seems like it's just the way it should be.
