Adam arrived home few minutes to 12:00AM. He undressed, showered, prayed and then tried to sleep. At first, it seemed the sleep was waiting for him but like a bolt of lightening, the thought of the mall girl stroke him and he sat upright.
Will she call or not, that's not the major problem for now. But if she calls, what would he say? Now that sounds like something he has to take care of before he got knocked out.
Doing something for the first time always comes with substantial difficulties. The thought of failure makes his heart beat faster.
What he wrote on the paper was I have an information for you. She may have an idea what his information will be but If she calls, she'll definitely act as though she thought the information is something of significant importance. "Wait" Adam said to himself isn't I have some disobedient and hard feelings towards you one of the sweetest and important information? What's wrong with people actually? Someone says he loves you and that makes you angry?
He thought, she'll either accept him or reject him. Either one will pay off.
Adam kept thinking, trying to plan things ahead of time until sleep knocked him out.
In the morning, while Adam was waiting for the call, Abubakar was briefing Umar on his most recent findings - things he learnt about Adam.
When it was 11:00 am, Adam gave up. She isn't calling. Even though he wasn't feeling good about it, he tried to shift his psychological focus to the planning of his last stealing stunt.
The phone thief went about his daily businesses, shuttling between his room, and other places within the house.
He went to his sister's room. She was reading.
"What are you reading?" He asked her."A novel"
"Lazy girl, you're reading short story books, how many pages is that. Let me see"
She laughed "its just two hundred and something pages but the drama within is too voluminous"
"Whose book is it?" Adam asked as he moved closer, flipping to see the book cover "ah, James Hadley Chase!" He exclaimed. "I thought only the gents read his stories"
"What makes you think so?" Nana asked.
"Because it's always crime, ladies aren't normally fond of crime stories"
"Well" Nana smiled "the stories are thrillers and I love crime stories. Maybe your lil sister is a lil criminal" she laughed hard.
If she only knows Adam thought. He also laughed "my lil sis is as innocent as water"
"Maybe she isn't" she retorted.
"She is innocent, tell me one crime you have ever done"
"None, but after reading many books, I can mastermind a successful crime"
"Well, anyway, I have met a girl"
"Whaaat! Are you serious?" She didn't believe him.
"Yes I am, it was yesterday when....."
As he was trying to narrate, a call came through his phone, a number he knows not. His heart leapt.
"I think.... I think she's the one"
He closed his eyes and picked. What came through was a male's voice.
"Adam this is Umar speaking"
Adam released a heavy sigh. "Umar, what's up?"
"I want to see you, give me time. It should be today because I wouldn't be around tomorrow"
"I think I'll be free all day. So you can come anytime... to our house"
