Small star bursts of light

Peek out from their ebony blanket

A pale silvery moon shines down

Lighting the world to day

In a strange, mysterious way

Lights of the night

And lights of the city

Sitting upon a rooftop

One can look up and see

The giant Eiffel Tower

Shimmering in the distance

With a thousand lights glittering

And one could also look down

And be blinded by its beauty

The gentle glow of streetlamps

Cast yellow pools upon the sidewalk

Bright lights emanate from the windows of

Houses and shops

Bringing with it the sound of laughter

Smells begin to drift up to the rooftops

Smells of rich soups

And sweet desserts

And thick, creamy pasta sauces

The heavy scent of

Freshly brewed coffee

Comes from a cafe nearby

And the stench of

Burning bread

Stings the night

From the bakery down the street

Far below

People busy the streets

Perhaps on their way home

Or maybe just to enjoy

The cool night

Filled with the sounds and smells

Of Paris...
