The Students gathered at the cliff above the Emerald Forest, some eager to begin while others were nervous about the task ahead.
"For years you have trained to become warriors." Begins Ozpin. "And today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest."
"Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of teams." Says Glynda. "Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates... Today."
"What? Aw..." Ruby makes scared noises.
"These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon." Continues Ozpin. "So it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well."
"Awww..." More scared noises from Ruby.
"That being said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years." States Ozpin.
And just like that, Ruby's world was shattered. "What?!?"
"See? I told you!" Nora tells her friend Quae Ren.
"After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way." Ozpin warns the gathered students. "Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path, or you will die."
That made a few of the students more even more nervous than they already were while making a few even more excited as well.
"You will be monitored and graded for the duration of your initiation. But our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing several relics. Each pair must choose one, and return to the top of the cliff. We will regard that, as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately." Ozpin finishes his explanation. "Are there any questions?"
"Yeah, um, sir-" Joan begins to ask a question...
"Good! Now, take your positions ." but is seemingly ignored by the Headmaster.
Everyone ready themselves and soon begin catapulting into the forest, with the first being Weiss.
"Uh, sir? I've got, um, a question." Says Joan. "So, this landing strategy thing, uh, w-what is it? You're, like, dropping us off or something?"
"No. You will be falling." Ozpin tells her.
"Oh, I see. So, like, did you hand out parachutes for us?" Asks Joan.
"Woohoo!" Yells Nora as she is catapulted.
"No. You will be using your own landing strategy." Ozpin replies.
"Uhuh... Yeah. So, um, what exactly is a landing strateGYYYY" Joan screams as she is catapulted.
Ozpin watches the students fly through the air, taking a sip of his coffee with a smile.
"Headmaster." Ozpin looks at Glynda, who points back towards the catapults. Ozpin turns away from the cliff to see Torinn, still standing on his launchpad.
Torinn looks to his left, then to his right, scratching his head in awkward confusion, "Ummm, is this a usual occurrence, Headmaster?"
"Not at all, this is the first time this has happened." Says Ozpin, taking another sip of his coffee. "How much do you weigh, Mr. Norixius?"
"Around four-hundred pounds or so, I believe." Replies Torinn.
"And how much does your armor weigh?" Asks Ozpin.
