I had to walk to school because I had no clue where my dad went. But there was no way I was getting a ride from him today anyway. It was about a mile so I showed up to school just as the bell was ringing. I had exactly three minutes to go to my locker and get to homeroom before I was officially late.

I speed-walked through the hall, almost zooming right past my locker. I turned the dial on the lock and jerked the locker open. It was kind of hot in the school and I did want to take off my hoodie, but there was no way I was doing that. I could risk anyone seeing the red marks my dad had left on my neck.

I pulled out my textbooks and shoved a few papers in. Slamming it, I spun around and took a few steps right into somone. Of course, me being the klutz that I am, dropped all of my books and tumbled to the floor myself. I groaned as my sore hip knocked against the ground.

"Oh, sh*t, I'm so sorry," I heard some start babbling. I saw a flash of pink and a warm hand on mine. The hand lifted me to my feet and I cast my gaze on the spaz and grinned to see pink-haired boy stooped to the ground, frantically picking up my books.

I bent down to help him and he looked at me. "Hey," the boy breathed, seeming as shocked to see me as I was him.

"Hey," I answered. The boy blushed and we both noticed that both of us had stopped gathering the books. My face felt heated as well and I lowered my gaze to finish retrieving the books. After I had them all back in my hands again, I stood up, extending my hand to help him up this time.

"I-My-what's your name?" the guy stuttered.

"Seth. Yours?" I asked, still standing there awkwardly.

"Ashley." He grinned when he said his name and I did too, the awkwardness broken.

"Ashley. I like it. So are you knew here? I definately haven't see you before," I said gesturing towards his pink and black hair. Sexy.

"Yeah, I just moved here. Its my first day. Hey, you wouldn't happen to know where room..." Ashley's voice trailed off as he looked down at a piece of paper in his hands. "203 is, would you?" He looked at me hopefully and I found it hard not to stare into his beautiful blue eyes.

"Uh, yeah, I'm heading there now, actually. Come on." I started walking and Ashley fell into step beside me. I looked up as the late bell rang. "Sh*t," I murmured, speeding up a litle. I felt Ashley put his hand on my arm and my heart raced at the slight touch.

"Hey, it's okay. What's the big deal if you're late?" he asked. I shook my head. I couldn't tell him about how my dad would react.

"Just come on," I said, still walking. Just before we walked into the classroom, I had a horrible thought. People here at Brookson High had a REALLY hard time with people who were different. One of the reasons I could never tell anyone I was gay. I was lucky that I looked normal enough to only get pushed around occasionally. But someone as eccentric as Ashley... That's another story.

I knew that he would probably get his ass kicked before the end of the day and there was nothing I could do to stop it. I already wasn't putting myself in a good position by even associating with him.

As we walked in, the morning chatter fizzled out and all eyes were turned toward us. Even the teacher was silent. My eyes met the floor in shame. I heard chair scrape back and I didn't want to look up to see who it was. Ashley walked past me and grabbed my arm in the process, dragging me with him. I worked up the nerve and looked up to see everyone staring and Chase Michael standing up next to his seat. His eyebrows were raised and he was clenching and unclenching his jaw. Sh*t, what was I getting myself into.

I took my normal seat and Ashley sat next to me. The teacher, apparently snapping out of his stupor, opened his mouth. Mr. Roger was an older guy. He didn't really like me. I think because he was so... conventional and old-school.
