Where would I be without you?

Lindsey opened his eyes slowly, barely. He looked straight ahead, because he wasn't able to move his head or any part of his body for that matter. He dind't understand where he was or why he was there. One thing for sure, it didn't seem to him like he was lying in his and Stevie's bed or the fact that the room was too grey and ugly to be theirs.

It took him a few minutes to realize his hand was being held, there was no need for him to question himself about the softness of those hands that so lovingly cradled his. His eyes followed the form of the sleeping woman in the chair next the bed. Long blonde wavy hair hiding her face was something he didn't approve.

He closed his eyes again and willed himself to gather every piece of strength his body would allow and squeezed her hand gently. His effort didn't make a difference, so he tried again. She stirred and her eyes fluttered open. She said nothing, she couldn't say anything. She was in a state of shock as she went from his blue grey eyes to his hand clutching hers.

"Lindsey... Please, don't be playing any games with me. Do something, anything, so I know you're really with me right now." She couldn't hear it, but his lips formed 'I love you' and that was enough of a proof to her. "Oh my god..." She gasped. "I can't believe this, Lindsey, you're back! You're with me!" Stevie thought she should go find Julie or Dr. Phillips. "I'm letting go off you for a few minutes, I need to call your doctor in here, but then I'm clinging onto you like a leech." She pressed her lips to his forehead and left.

Stevie met Julie as soon as she was out of the room. "Hello, Ms Stephanie, where are you off to?"

"To find you or Dr. Phillips or anyone!"

"Why? What happened?" The woman had a concerned look on her face as she gripped Stevie's hands in attempt to calm her down.

"It's Lindsey! He woke up, he's back!"

Julie broke into a wide smile and pulled Stevie in a hug. "I'll go fetch the doctor."

"Thank you." She said and re-entered Lindsey's room. "Dr. Phillips will be here soon to check on you."

Stevie was standing out of the doctor's way to let him do whatever he was supposed to do. She couldn't stop herself from crying. Her heart would be torn in two if the doctor said something was wrong with Lindsey. The smile on Dr. Phillip's lips let her know there was nothing to worry about as he stepped away from his patient  and came to draw her in a hug.

"You are shaking like a leaf, Ms Stephanie." He laughed softly.

"I'm just... I'm so worried, I don't know what you're about to tell me and I'm afraid to hear how he is and..."

"Please, you'll make yourself go crazy."

"Then tell me Lindsey's fine and I won't have to."

"Your husband is perfectly fine. Don't expect us to release him already, but I can promise you things are looking great. He's weak, two and a half weeks of lying still, with no movement will do that to you."

"I'll nurse him back to health, I'll do anything it takes to get him back on his feet."

"I wasn't even going to suggest you a nurse anyway." He joked and seeing a smile replace the tears on her face was nice. "Seeing how you spent here every single day, I doubt anynone could get in the way between you two now."

"You're right, you are so right, doctor. And thank you so much for everything, for taking such good care of my husband."

"That's what we do." He put his hand on her shoulder and squeezed lightly in support. "I will leave the two of you alone, don't make him talk too much. I doubt he would be able to in the first place, but you know..."

"I do, I understand and I won't."

The doctor gave her a nod and left the room.

It had been a week since Lindsey came out of his coma, but every day Stevie came to visit him, her smile grew even bigger to see him getting better and stronger. "Hey you..." She found him half sitting up, just after breakfast. They kissed briefly and she took her spot next to him. "How are you today?"

"Better, since you're here." Lindsey laced their fingers together.

"You have no idea... I get out of the car and get into the elevator every morning repeating to myself that you are fine, that everything's getting better, that I should stop worrying, but I can't. I won't be able to ever forget you with your eyes closed at all times and when I touched your hand and you didn't respond, that would break my heart."

"Stop, no... Don't go there, baby. It's over, that is all in the past."

"You're gonna have to keep reminding me that."

"I will, gladly." He kissed her hand and lay down on the pillows to relax.

"Are you ok?"

"Yeah, yeah I'm fine." He forced a smile, which he knew she didn't believe. "I'm just... I'm shocked you're here, with me."

"I don't really understand. What do you mean by that?"

"I'm beginning to think my brain was still working or something like that, while I was unconscious. I'm not entirely sure."

"Well, you're not leaving this bed any time soon, so why don't you tell me?"

"It's not something I want to remember."

"Lindsey..."

"I... Ok. But let me speak." She nodded and allowed him to continue. "I already woke up once before, at least I thought I did. You came to see me with Sara a few weeks later as they were releasing me from the hospital, but... You just stood by the door, you didn't even want to come say hi. It was your birhtday as well, you said you're only getting older. When we came home, Sara was the one looking after me, you had left, supposedly to see Dave about your album. Some more time passed and I found out you were cheating on me, with... with Andrew. I confronted you, but you cried and explained to me you got addicted to Klonopin again and you didn't know what you were doing. I thought you ended everything with him, but then you left for Nashville and I missed you, and I flew there to surprise you, but I walked in on you and him... you know... and I did something horrible to you. I... I forced you into having sex with me and then you screamed at me, saying you hated me and you wanted to divorce me. And we did. And you were happy about it. I saw it all happen... I was always there..."

"Oh my god, Lindsey... No... That is... I'm speechlees. I don't know what to say. One thing, I can assure you none of that happened. I love you and I spent the whole time with you here, with no such thought of seeing him. I haven't seen him for months. Why would I want someone else besides you?"

"So, you didn't sleep with him?"

"God no!"

"And you didn't take off your wedding ring at any point?"

"Lindse, no, of course not."

"And you didn't tell him you loved him and wanted to be with him?"

"No, no to everything you're going to ask me. This is crazy talk!"

"What about if I ask you to tell me you love me?"

Stevie smiled and pressed her lips to his. "I love you, Lindsey. Always have, always will. You're my whole world, you're the great love of my life. I wouldn't survive without you. I wouldn't want to live without you. Linds, you're everything to me. You're my other half, you're my partner in crime." She laughed through her tears. "If you're not there, I don't want to be either."

He opened his arms for her and she pressed herself close to him. "I love you, Steph."

"I love you, too. Where would I be without you..." She sang softly.

That's all folks! :) Did you really think I wasn't going to make them be together? Thanks for reading, hope you liked it!
