Dipper POV
I held Mabel's hand tightly as we blew out all 23 birthday candles. I closed my eyes and could hear everyone cheering. I felt the soft post-summer breeze tickle my nose. I cherished this moment because every time I experience it, it is a reminder of our first summer in Gravity Falls, once upon a time. The years to follow it was nice. Different, but nice. I wouldn't say I wished they never happened, but these summers to follow just weren't as, well, exciting as that first one. Nothing was the same after that summer. Grunkle Stan and Grunkle Ford were absent for a good 4 years after the summer of 2013. but they sure made up for it in 2018.
I realized Mabel had let go of my hand and was chatting with Grenda, one of her 2 best friends.
"Hey, Mabel!" I called from the porch. "Come on! Let's open our gifts!"
"Coming!" Mabel called. She dashed to the porch, her 23rd birthday custom sweater glowed in the midday sun. Probably due to the extreme amount of sequins she used.
"Aw, Dudes. You're gonna love my gift." Soos said.
"Your gift?" Asked Melody, His girlfriend. "I thought it was our gift." She said, playfully nudging him with her elbow.
Mabel grabbed a long box. It was surprisingly heavy, so she almost would have dropped it if not for me holding the other end. She eagerly ripped up the packaging like a wild wolverine. And stared in awe of the contents.
I couldn't see what it was, so I moved the paper out of the way. Gee, Soos. How many layers of wrapping paper did you use?
Mabel jumped up and shrieked. "THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!" She said, hugging him, jumping up and down.
I finally moved all the paper out of the way to see that it was his old sound effect keyboard.
"Hey, Grenda! Look!" Mabel called. Grenda then ran over to see, the ground shaking with every step she took. She even shook the shack as she got closer. My hat fell off my head and I grabbed it. I picked out bits of tape and paper and plopped it back on my head of messy hair.
"Soos? Isn't this the keyboard you used the night I met candy and Grenda?"
Soos Nodded. "Sure is, dude!"
"WOW. THE MEMORIES ARE SO CLEAR IN MY HEAD. I MIGHT CRY." Grenda yelled.
"Hmm. sentimental gift for Mabel, referring to the first summer. If I'm thinking this right, I might have either gotten a funny gift to ease up the tension or another serious gift." I picked up a small box. "Only one way to find out!" I said.
I ripped off the paper and investigated the box. It was a simple, brown box with some hemp string tied around it in a bow. The box was small and could easily fit it in my palm.
I carefully untied the string and lifted the top to reveal a small golden pin. It was tiny and was in the shape of a simple pine tree. I smiled and looked at the wrapping paper that was wrapped around the box. I looked all over the scraps looking for a name but I couldn't find the name of the gifter.
"Thanks.." I said. " Who gave me this?"
Grunkle Ford and Grunkle Stan exchanged looks and nobody spoke, only slight murmurs throughout the crowd.
"Heh. Weird. Anyways, thank you, Mysterious gift giver!" I said. Mabel broke the awkwardness and spoke.
"Aw. It's so pretty!" She said. "I bet It would look awesome on your hat! You don't mind, do you? "before I could object she took the pin from my hands and my hat from my head. She pinned it right on the bill and set it back on my head.
"Heh, thanks, Mabel," I said. "Mabel?"
I realized she wasn't moving.
"Mabel, are you okay?" I said. Backing away. She still didn't move, arm still out as if I was still right there.
I looked around. EVERYTHING WAS FROZEN. A bird was frozen midair as if time had stopped.
I looked at my watch and help it close to my ear. No tick. Time was really, actually still! I looked at my hat and took off the pin. "Was it this?" I said aloud. I looked at the box It came in. At the bottom, there was a note. It read: See you soon, Pinetree. -Bill.
I screamed. I looked up at Mabel again and realized she was moving!
"Oh, Mabel! I was so worried! Are you Okay? Are you-" I said. She didn't respond. She just put her arm down and started walking.. backward?
Is time reversing? No, that's impossible. Then again, It's Bill who gave me the pin. I watched as she wrapped the keyboard back up. Suddenly, she started gaining speed! Suddenly It was a Blur!
I stood there and watched the time go back, Seasons changed at lightning speed and eventually came to a stop. I found myself lying on a concrete floor. My body ached. My vision was blurry and I passed out.
OOHHHH What's gonna happen next?!
