A/N

This is probably the last regular chapter. There will, of course, be an epilogue, but next week's upload will most likely be some form of EPOV outtake from earlier in the hook. I've had a few requests, so I'll see what I can do. I think that number one on my list is chapter 18 or whatever it was, and Victoria's attack on his house, following into when he finds out that they are vampires. I've also had one request for Victoria's take on things, so I may follow that one up.

Enjoy this one. It's a bit smexy (don't you love my technical terms?!) so feel free to skip the steamier bits.

Two hours later, curled up on the couch with Edward, watching terrible TV, Alice's note was completely out of my mind. When the phone rang, I had to suppress the urge to groan. I was comfortably where I was, thank you very much. I didn't want to get up, walk two paces, and pick up my mobile.

It rang insistently, so, disliking the screeching noises it was making (I really needed to change me my ringtone), I stood up and picked it up. Carlisle's name was flashing up on the caller ID.

"Hello?"

"Bella. Alice wasn't sure if... Never mind. I-"

"Alice wasn't sure what?" I asked, curious.

"Doesn't matter!" came Alice's sing-song voice from the background.

I sighed. "Ok. What is it?"

"The Denalis are leaving."

"Peachy." I could feel Edward's eyes on me, and I remembered, with a start, that he was a vampire. He could hear everything Carlisle was saying. So I presumed he knew why I'd suddenly turned so snappy. Anything that pulled Tanya to the front of my mind only served to drive me mad.

"Bella," Esme admonished me through the phone, causing Emmett to guffaw.

"Shut it, Em," I said, though my lips had curved up in a smile. Emmett always managed to make me laugh.

"Love you too, Bells," he hollered.

I rolled my eyes, but was smiling full-out now. Feeling remarkably better, I asked Carlisle whether he wanted Edward and myself over at the main house.

"We would," he confirmed. "I'm aware that you and Tanya have never been on the best of terms, and recent events obviously make you less inclined to wish to see her, but for the sake of the others, I'd appreciate it if you came. Kate, especially, feels terrible about Tanya's behaviour regarding Edward and the Volturi."

"I understand." I glanced over at the clock, and saw that it was still only early evening. "We'll be over in a few minutes, ok?"

"Lovely. Thank you, my dear."

"It's no problem, Carlisle. Minus her, I like the Denalis."

"See you soon."

"Goodbye." We hung up, and Edward looked at me, his eyes almost wary. I cocked an eyebrow at him. "What?"

"Tanya's going to be there."

"And if she is stupid enough to lay a single finger on you, rest assured that there will be more than two vampires ready to yank her right off."

Edward smiled, and shook his head. "I didn't mean me. I meant you."

"Me?" I asked cautiously.

"For a psychologist, you're not very good at your own head." He laced his fingers through mine, and looked at me. His eyes were lightening everyday. They were lighter now - light orange, but not quite fading into the soft butterscotch of the rest of our family.
