January 1, 2020, comes and goes by fast.  It is New Year's day, but it is also a year since Mel first hatched out of his shell.  He is officially one year old!

    Happy Birthday, Mel!    Hurrah!

At one year old, Mel can walk, eat, drink, fly, chirp, and use his swing, but he was able to do those things for a while now.  He is a healthy, happy bird and he has a disability.  He walks with one foot spread out to the side.  He likes his swing upside down and if someone fixes it he will squawk to show his displeasure at once.

The only other time he squawks is if he is low on water.  Other than this he makes happy noises. He is glad to be alive.

His tail feather is rather long now. It is a nice turquoise color just like his father's tail feather.

Sometimes, he likes to hang upside down in his cage and it is the cutest thing ever.

This bird is one of the author's favorites since he is so well behaved and was born in the home.  Yes, he is one special animal.

He is quiet at night after dark as long as the cover is put on his cage.
