The star-filled backdrop of space is seen. It's empty for a bit. But then, the tendril of an unknown creature appears.
Now, the planet of Thanegar can be seen. Screams can be heard. On the planet, the Thanegarians run in a panic as their home crumbles. Buildings toppled, the people of Thengar flattened and killed.
An entire civilization is being destroyed. A young man and an older man run as fast as they can, avoiding all the destruction.
"Katar, I'm afraid we may not make it!" the older man says.
"We'll make it!" Katar shouts in response, dismissing him.
They run for a while longer as more buildings are toppled to the ground. Eventually, they reach a small domed building.
"In here, Father!" Katar yells.
Katar and his father, Dr. Hol, enter the building. Inside, they arrive in a laboratory. Blue lights all around, along with futuristic objects. In the middle, there is a circle of control panels around an area with light emanating from it.
Sparks fly in the lab. "Okay, what do we need?" Katar asks.
"Grab the power source," Hol commands. Katar grabs a tiny object and hands it to his father. Hol puts the device on the control panel. "Get on the launch pad."
"Yes, father," he says as he steps onto the pad. "How will you get off of Thanegar?"
"My son, I'm afraid only you will be making this journey."
"What?! Father, no!" Katar tries to run forward, but his father presses a button. Loops form around Katar on the pad, moving through the air like hula hoops.
"I'm sorry, son, but we cannot transport two people. We simply don't have the time or resources," Dr. Hol explains. "This machine also needs at least one man to operate."
"Father..."
Dr. Hol presses another button. A suit with a gold helmet and wings and a red bird-shaped emblem inside of a glass case fades away and appears on Katar.
"If it has to be either of us, then it must be you, my son," the doctor asserts. "Katar Hol, my son. I am proud of your achievements, and you must live to achieve more. The Nth metal, your hawk suit, it will protect you and carry you to where you need to be. Now, please. Take my lessons with you. Then, my son, I will never leave you, even in the face of my death."
Katar is speechless. More sparks fly as the lab rumbles.
"You must find any inhabited planets! Warn them, tell them of the coming threat before it's too late! Goodbye, my son!"
Dr. Hol presses a button, and Katar begins to fade away. As he fades, he says, "Goodbye, Father."
Katar Hol, the Hawk, appears flying through space with his wing suit. "My father, my species! My planet... they're all dead... No, this isn't the hour for mourning. I must find the nearest inhabited planet and warn them of the coming threat, so Thanegar didn't die for nothing! I must warn them that Starro is Coming!"
