"Duped"
PART TWOAdam was sat at a long dining room table as we entered, his friend Nathan Fellington had his hands on the louvres to the nearest window. He spun round and froze.
'Trying to escape are we?' I asked finding myself with a touch of bravado.
The room was slightly smaller than the one we had just left. It was also darker due to both windows being secured behind shut louvers. Heavy curtains were also drawn.
Light from outside struggled to get in but there was just enough to see and hold a conversation.
The table was polished mahogany. It was in total contrast to the two men I was now looking at.
I recognised Adam from the photograph I had seen back on the yacht. His friend Fellington looked younger by at least five years. He reluctantly came back to sit next to him.
Neither looked armed. That at the very least was a relief.
Mr Nakamura sat opposite Fellington leaving me to sit facing Adam.
My first impressions was that both looked very tired and both hadn't seen a wash in days.
Adam looked worried while his friend sat restless, his facial expression ready to explode at any moment.
But I was beyond caring how they felt and to be quite honest how they wanted to look was their own business.
I got straight to the point resting the shares on the table.
I waited for a response but there was none.
'Sign them,' I said.
I was ready for an argument. I had even calculated my response if he refused so it flawed me completely when he simply looked confused and said nothing at all.
'They're yours,' I snarled annoyed. 'We found them in your friend's apartment,' I motioned towards Nathan. 'So don't even try and deny you know what they are.'
Fellington was the first to speak turning to his friend Adam as he told him to ignore everything I had just said.
'Don't. Say nothing. Remember. This is just another one of their stupid mind games.'
And then with a surprised venom in his voice he turned directly at me and I received the full force of his anger.
'You're scum. Do you know that? The lot of you. You're nothing but a bunch of dirty crooks. You think you can come in here and scare us, well it won't work and one of these days you are going to get what's rightfully yours.'
I shook my head slightly and brought my lips tight together. I pounced on his last words.
'What was rightfully mine Mr Fellington,' I said, 'died a few days ago so please don't you dare try and think you can preach to me.'
I then turned my attention back towards Adam.
'It died the moment Mr Stamford here,' I said pursing my lips, 'killed my best friend and what is rightfully his, died the day he decided to lie to his sister.'
At the mention of her name Adam suddenly came alive sitting up straight as his eyes widened.
'You know Jenny? You know my sister? Is she here?'
I didn't answer.
I had already made up my mind not to get embroiled in any kind of mind games with this man or allow myself to be the subject of any emotional turmoil, so I simply reached for the certificates I had put on the table and pushed them forwards until they slid onto his lap.
