As my husband lounges on the arm chair late that evening after a warm and comfortable lunch with my friends filled with laughter and mischief, he watches me as I walk up to him and settle myself over him.
My folded legs bracket both his thighs as I lean my cheek against his chest, my fingers clutching the sides of his shirt.
I breathe far far easier, feeling like a device plugged into power. I feel as if my very pores open, absorbing in his energy and presence.
For many many moments, we remain that way, quiet and content. His fingers lay spread over my thighs, unmoving but warm and heavy.
I tilt my head up, smiling. My husband leans forward, laying his forehead against mine.
"Comfortable?" He asks.
"Hmmmm."
He lifts one hand from my thigh, sliding it up my side to reach my back. Then up again to curl against the nape of my neck. Tugging me up a little, he parts my lips in a brazen but gentle kiss.
But too soon he ends it.
"Why don't we go to bed?" He asks, his voice low and soothing.
My eyes are barely able to open. I'm so warm and comfortable.
"Hmmm." It's all I can manage.
Soft laughter against my lips.
"Did you know our little rendezvous was quoted in the news?" My husband murmurs, "A picture of our lunch meet included."
I smile, "Mmmhmmm?"
"Was this a one shot, two birds kind of thing, wife?" He murmurs, the tip of his nose touching mine.
My smile spreads further.
"A nice public view of a casual lunch date between us and other humans. And a meet to introduce me to your friends." My husband says.
Another quiet moment passes.
My lashes slowly lift and I catch my husband's rare unguarded gaze. It's so warm it melts the ice of his blue, turning the hue into something deeper and richer and burning my sleep away.
"Did you have a good time?" I murmured, blinking lazily.
A slow smile spreads his lips.
"Do I get points?" I ask.
His head cants, "Points?"
"For the job well done?" I ask.
"You can get all the points you want."
"Can I cash them in?"
His brows raise. "For?"
"Some sexy time." I say, wiggling up closer to him.
Shock splashes across his face before he tips his head back and laughs. The vibrations of his humour reach me from where I'm pressed up against him.
Shivers tangle up my spine and I lift myself onto my knees and kiss him as he laughs, swallowing the happiness whole, my hands on either side of his face.
His fingers catch my sides and squeeze once before he matches my intensity with his own. Tingles burst inside my stomach and spread throughout my body, raising goosebumps along my skin.
My breathing quickens as I open my eyes and pull away. His eyes are rooted to me as I lift myself off him and step off the arm chair. Bending, I lock my fingers in his shirt and tug, pulling him along with me.
He raises, power and shadows bellowing out of him, shimmering in the air around him for a moment before he draws it right back into himself.
I didn't want him reining himself in. Not tonight.
