Chapter 1: Highschool problems

"Spencer get your bag its time to go!" My mom said. She was in her usual place. Her bed. She hardly even moves from there only if she needs to go to the bathroom but that's about it. I had to make toast myself because she complained of how inexplicably exhausted she was. "Spencer!" She demanded. "Okay,okay I'm leaving." I snapped motioning for the door. "Have a good day at school baby." She cried. I shut the door and made my way down the pathway. Derek was parked in his usual spot across from my house. He waved at me. "Hey Spence." He said with a smile as I slouched into the passenger seat with a huff. "What's up with you cat got your tounge?" He smiled. "Hey." I grumbled fidgeting with the seatbelt. "Mom annoying you again?" He laughed driving down the road. I nodded. "She never listens to me the doctor says that she needs to get out of bed but she always stalls and ends up ignoring it. I'm only 12 and I'm turning 13 in October. Which is almost here. I can't deal with all of this myself its too complicated." I tell him. "As bad as I feel for you I can't really do much to help." Derek shrugged as we pulled into the parking lot of the school. I groaned. "I know I hate this hell hole as much as you do." Derek said getting out. I swung my bag over my shoulder and followed him into the school ignoring the usual insults I recieve each morning. "I have to get to first class. See you at lunch okay?" Derek noted. I nodded sheepishly. The popular guy Laurence shoved me into the lockers. "Hey watch where your going pussy." He smiled shoving me causing me to collapse. "Hey! Get away from him right now!" Derek thundered. "Fine whatever pick up for this pussy." He laughed and walked away with his usual clique. "Hey are you okay?" Derek asked grabbing my hand and helping me up. I nodded. "I thought you were going to class?" I asked brushing the dust off my kahakis. "I was but than I realized I forgot my books for Math." He said. I nodded. "Thanks." I smiled. "For what?" He questioned. "For standing up for me." I said. "Those guys are total assholes and I promise not to let them hurt you." He said patting me on my back. I smiled. "Well I have to get to Chemistry before Mrs. Lenny kicks me out." I said turning around. I was about to leave until "Hey Spence. Wait." Derek called out. He came up to me. "Yeah?" I ask. "I need help with my Biology homework would you be able to come over after school?" He asked. I nod. "Sure." I smile. "Cool. Now get to Chem before you get your first detention." He laughed.
