Time for Surgery
They just finished prepping me for surgery. I have asked them many times who my donor is but they won't tell me. Ava has tried asking too and she says they didn't tell her either, but she looks like she knows something.
"Ava, did they tell you who the donor is?" I ask her as the nurse pokes the needle into my arm and I feel the propofol and midazolam start pumping through my veins.
Ava didn't answer me as she typed on her phone aggressively.
"Ava." I say again but still reserve no response. "Ava!" I raise my voice a little and she turns on her heels to face me.
"What?" I raised my brow at her and she sighs. "I'm sorry. What was your question?"
"I asked if they told you who the donor was."
She hesitated before she answered, "No." She told me bluntly as she looked back down at her chiming phone. She answered the call and went out to the hallway.
I was hoping to see Luca before I went into surgery but me and Mateo decided that he shouldn't miss another day of school.
I look up at the ceiling as I feel myself getting drowsy. I hear the door open then close. I look over and see Mateo in a hospital gown and dragging along a IV stand.
"What are you looking like that for?" I ask him with a hushed voice.
He walks over to my bed and sits on the chair by me.
"Did they tell you who the donor was?" He asks me as he looks up and meets my eyes.
It takes me a second but I figure it out.
"It's you. Isn't it?" I ask him shocked.
He nods his head in response.
"But why? I have been so rude to you lately. I mean I almost kicked you out of your kids life."
"Because that doesn't matter to me. When you care about someone as much as I care about you, and not just as someone that I wouldn't mind spending the rest of my life with but as my sons mom. The person who raised my son when I wasn't there. The person who somehow found a way away from me and managed to hide for years. You are a extraordinary person Rue. You are kind hearted, strong, beautiful.." His words fade away as the medicine starts to settle in.
"That's why I love you.." His words turn into a whisper as my eyes close and I can feel the medicine taking over my system.
