I wasn't going to post any more of this until the first of the year, but I've been writing a lot recently, so I figured I would anyway.
Thanks to all of my friends on here as well. You know who you are, and I thank you for being there for me the past few days. You are wonderful and I appreciate it more than you know.
That being said, I love you all, God bless and happy reading(:
"Wake up, beautiful."
Wake up.
"Bethany? Baby? Wake up, sweetheart."
Wake up. This is not some second grade play ground.
"Beth, come on, darlin'. Please wake up? I have to go to work."
This is the real world. People here have to work to succeed.
"What's it going to take to get you out of bed, Beth? Please? Open your eyes for me?"
You said you would do whatever it takes. Open your eyes; I want you to watch. This is reality.
Her eyes finally flashed open, and her breath hitched. Hunter sat next to her, on the edge of the coverlet she had clutched to her chest. His hand was on her forehead, as though he were checking her for a fever. He smiled at her, and she did her best to return it, though the dream stayed with her. It had been so vivid; for a moment, she had really been there, living that moment over again.
"There she is!" Hunter said, moving his hand off her forehead and watching as she sat up and stretched a bit. "I have to go to the studio again. Are you going to be okay on your own until lunch?"
She nodded, rubbing her eyes tiredly. I am going to have to stop reading so much, she thought, blaming the nightmare on the novel she had just finished.
"Good. I'll bring you something from that sandwich place you love around one o'clock. I've got to get going, but I love you. I'll see you soon." He stood, kissed her forehead and then her lips, then headed for the door.
"Love you, too," she called, remembering to speak just before he left the room. "Have a good day!" she called louder, shaking off the dream and deciding to hop out of bed and jump in the shower. As she washed off the skin memory associated with that awful dream, she sang loudly to clear her head.
The rest of the morning passed relatively slowly. Hunter had opened all the windows that morning, as he did every day, and it was a nice day out, so she did not bother to close them. She fried herself some eggs and turned on Hunter's record player. She sat down at the table to eat her food, her foot tapping along with the rhythm of the music.
When she was done eating, she walked back to their room to get dressed, brush out her hair, and get ready for the day. Just as she was deciding she would go for a run, since the April weather was beckoning, she heard a knock at the door, and went in that direction instead.
She checked the peep hole and smiled, seeing who was behind the wood. She opened the door and pushed back the screen, smiling at her guest.
"Amanda, hi!" Bethany gave Amanda a friendly hug, though Amanda was carrying a silver-wrapped dish that made it difficult for Beth's arms to reach her. "Come on in. I was just about to go for a run," Beth said, slipping back into the house after Amanda and closing the door, "But now that you're here..."
Amanda laughed, kicking off her little black flats and leaving them by the door. "I brought you some brownies," she said, gesturing to the glassware in her hands. "Where should I put them?"
