"Baby, get up, he'll be here in forty-five minutes!" Ria yells as she opens my room door. She is in some lace boy shorts and matching bra. Hell, I'm wondering if I have time for some early morning nookie. Focus Ice.

I get up, shaking off the thought of my quickie with Ria. She leaves the room as I get up, shower, and put on my shirt and shyt. Ria comes in to do my tie. She is just smiling uncontrollably. If I didn't know any better, you would think she just won the lottery. After she does my tie, she delivers a soft kiss to my cheek and wiggles out of my room. I sit down on the bed and put on my shoes.

I walk out into the office, I notice Ria had cleaned up a little. There is actually fresh coffee, donuts, and magazines on the coffee table. I saunter over to my desk and notice a file on it.

"Uh, Ria, what is this?" I ask.

"When you went to bed, I did a little dossier on the councilman for you. Past, present, future, some photos, his voting record, you know all the good stuff we should know about the client." Ria explains that smile still on her face.

I began to open the file when the door opened and Councilman Gates walks in, followed by his beautiful wife. Ria's toothy smile disappears, but she greets them and leads them to sit down in front of my desk. He shakes my hand before he sits.

"I will leave you three alone. Mister Roman, make sure you take a quick glance at the file on the Councilman please." Ria says as she surprisingly walks out of the office and not her normal spot at her desk near the door. I turn my attention to the Councilman.

"Good morning, Mister Roman, pleasure to finally meet you. This is my wife, Vernetta," He says. I nod to acknowledge her. He then looks at me in the eye and says, “I want to get straight to business Mister Roman, I know you are a busy man, as am I."

I like him already, not big on small talk gets straight to the point. I open the dossier that Ria gave me on the Councilman.

"Busy is an understatement in an election year, Councilman. Please continue." I say half paying attention to the file.

He looks at his wife, sighs, and then begins:

"As you've said, there is a very important election coming up, and John Byers is running against me. I don't have to tell you that politics is not a pretty sport. Both his and my campaigns have been throwing daggers all summer, but now things have gotten personal. I have been receiving letters from someone saying that I should drop out of the race to avoid being 'exposed' by a scandal that will cost me the election. I tried to put my people on this but they have come up with nothing. I figured it was time to call in an 'unconventional' detective for a tough situation. My wife and I have a lot invested in this community and do not want to be a victims of a blackmailer who in the end may be bluffing."

I listened to him as I read through his dossier. I then realized why Ria's demeanor changed when He and his wife came in. I closed the file, and looked at the Councilman.

"You know, Mister Gates, I really don't like politicians because they lie worse than the criminals I come across in my line of work. You, with all due respect, are no different. Let me now get to business, Councilman. Who else do you think knows you're cheating on your wife?" I ask, looking at him and her. They both seem to go pale on me. I can't believe this asshole tried to lie to me.

"Gloria!" I yell as I loosen my tie and undo the top button on my shirt. I'm going to let these two sweat in my silence for a second. Ria comes into the office with my gun and shoulder holster. The councilman's eyes widened. I put on my holster and spoke,"Mr. Gates, you do not know me, nor know who I may know, so why would you bring your mistress into my office and portray her as your wife?"
