Chapter 28

Faith

Clary, Jace, and I followed Luke in the Chines restaurant as he fast walked into the main part of it. He was clearly upset with not hearing about the sword until just now.

"How could you not tell me that?"

"The Downworld would be in total chaos if they knew what the Sword could do," Clary explained.

"There would be uprisings everywhere," Jace added.

Luke stopped and turned to the three of us, "So you're saving the Downworlders from themselves? We never asked."

A sigh left my lips as I looked at Luke, "We didn't even know that Valentine could activate the Sword until we realized he had an angel."

Clary took a step forward, "Luke, I didn't want you to worry."

"Well, it's too late for that. He has my sister, your aunt. What else aren't you three telling me?"

I glanced at Clary and Jace who nodded, "The angel, he, he showed us something."

Luke's mouth parted to probable yell at us more, but Clary stopped him. "Just now, on the rooftop, he showed us a vision of a demon that can destroy the Sword."

"How do you know that's what he was telling you?"

"There's no other explanation. When the demon touched the Sword, he and the Sword both disintegrated," Clary explained.

Jace looked at Luke who turned his attention on him, "Luke, it was a demon I'd never seen before."

Sighing, Luke looked at the ground before at us again, "Then go find it. I'll head out and see if that bastard left any clues for us to track him down." With that, he walked out of the restaurant, leaving us.

Clary headed to the Institute while I headed to Jace and I's house. Jace went to check with Magnus on some things, leaving me alone. I found myself sitting on the couch, starring at the few boxes that still haven't been unpacked yet. I hear the door open and turn to watch Jace walk in. "Hey," He said, closing the door behind him.

"Hey."

"So, Magnus is throwing a party for Alec and Izzy's little brother, Max. He invited us," Jace said, walking over and sitting next to me on the couch. He wrapped his arm around me.

A scuff left my lips as I look ahead, "Yeah, because the last time I saw Maryse it went so well."

Rubbing my arm soothingly, Jace said, "Hey, I'll be there, by your side. We both can get drunk and hide from my mother together," He said, smiling when he heard me laugh and nod.

I laid my head on his shoulder for a little while, both of us just enjoying the silence. Once it was time to get ready, I dug through my closet for a dress to wear. I found a short, navy blue dress that looked like it would be perfect for something like this.
