Huey's Pov

Just then, gun fire rang out throughout Lucky's, I could faintly hear the screams of the guests.
Birdie kept firing shots but after awhile he ran out of ammo. His two guards were dead and the rest of his crew were out celebrating. I returned fire.

"We needa get out of here little bruddas! They're going to take us out." Birdie's voice was loud and was full of authority. I nodded at him. I returned fire as Riley, Cindy and Birdie retreated out the back door. I got myself into the mess, I guess I have to dig myself out.

When their was a pause in gunfire, I began crawling out the back. They were all in the car ready to leave, of course Birdie was driving. I quickly hopped in the car and we escaped, barely with our lives. I look back and I see the Lucky's bar was on fire.

It was very silent in that car to Riley said something. "So, you call this protection!" He yelled at Birdie. "Y'all supposed to be professional and gangsta! Yet we gettin' punked by some white boys?! Huh, what the fuck is this? We hiding now? We should've died in that bar with some dignity instead of retreating like some BITCHES!"

Birdie slammed on the brakes. He looked at Riley for a moment, he grabbed the back of his head and slammed it onto the dashboard, several times. "WHAT DID I SAY?! I SAID THAT WE'LL GET THEM! YOU'LL TAKE BIRDIE'S WORD FOR IT AND YOU WON'T QUESTION ME EVER AGAIN!" Birdie shouted. I was about to step in and defend my brother but Birdie quickly turned over to me and gave me a look that said I best not join in.

And for the safety of me and Riley. I just sat back in my seat, waiting. Birdie calmed himself down and patted Riley on the back. "No harm done." We continued driving, there was no where safe to go for us. We could try to go back home and risk getting attacked at night. Birdie seemed to know where we were going.

I could tell he didn't like he was attacked in his own territory, they could only mean one thing. They're going to try and take it from him. Birdie was an easy man to find, you can often find him in the back of his bar, playing cards or messing around with the blonde.

We continued driving for a long time, everyone was silent. In the afternoon, we pulled up to an old warehouse, it looked like it had been there for a long time. They were no cars driving down the road, this warehouse was abandoned. The only cars that were there, were Birdie's men.

We pulled into the parking lot, all the men were scattered around making conversation, this was going to be some kind of speech. Everybody knew to get into their place when the sleek black SUV pulled into the lot. Birdie hopped out of the car first, he was mad. "So..." He began. "I was at the bar, with my two guards. And may I remind you that isn't how it suppose to be."

"And you all were out partying, while my bar was getting shot up and two my guards! WHO WAS THERE FOR ME AT THE START! YOU LET THEM PERISH! You weren't suppose to be out! You knew we had an ongoing war. So, I'm going to make an example.
Little Brudda." He turned to me and held his hand out. "Pistol."

I reached into my waistband and slapped the pistol into his hand. He cocked it. His eyes wandered around before he chose who he'd target. He quickly fired two shots and killed two men... "I hope this makes you all think before slacking on the fookin' job! Now clean this shit up." He threw the gun onto the ground before heading back to the SUV.

I was shocked at how he could be so quick to take someone's life. I've never seen him do anything like this. If me and Riley were to cross him, would our outcomes be the same. I got to thinking after we left.

He seemed to notice. Birdie looked at me through the rearview mirror. "Don't pity those chumps, they knew what life they were getting into, they knew the risks and costs of crossing a man like me. Just be lucky it wasn't you and your brother slumped in the dirt back there." He said.

I was going to say something but I silenced myself, I was getting wayy used to taking orders, and I didn't like it. Birdie was going to get his, in time... We drove to Birdie's place. It was a good place for the ghetto, not to big, not too small. At least he was humble.

I shook Riley awake and he jolted and looked around. We were going to be staying at Birdie's home for a few days. Things had to cool down. "We're staying at Birdies" I said. He nodded and turned to the blonde. "Cindy, wake up." He shook her. I stepped out of the car and followed Birdie to the steps. We opened the door. The house was decorated nicely. "Nice house." I said.

"Yeah, little brudda. It's paid for too. This is my famillie's treasure, I was finally able to pay off the mortgage and move my ma into one of those fancy nursing homes." Birdie sighed. "Yeah, it took me a long time to get where I am little brudda. I did all this for my mama. But y'know what?"

"What?" I responded.

"It developed into something more. I no longer did it for my ma. I did it because I had the ambition to sit at the thrown and help people, shed the blood of my eneimes. And one day hopefully take over this town and make it for the blacks and only for the blacks. But, ever since the big time wise guys moved in this town, they've been pushing us back longer and longer. And now my boy, we're gearing up, readying for our war and with hundreds of men on our forces I know we can do this." Birdie's words were very serious and he looked me in my eye.

"Will you join the cause my brudda?"

"I will." I said in the moment.

Birdie smiled at me and pulled me into a hug. Just then Riley walked in. "What the fuck? Y'all doing some gay shit in here?" Riley shouted.

Birdie gave a look to Riley that took him to shut up and then Birdie walked off. Riley walked up to me. "What he say to you?" Riley tried to nudge himself in. "Nothing." I said and then went into the kitchen. Birdie was already in there, preparing dinner. Birdie felt like a father more than a gang leader. I understand his motives for what he does and I don't really think they're too bad.

When the food was done, he placed a plate in front of all of us. It was an old fanishoned Jamaican dinner. Riley began to dig in. Birdie slammed his hand on the table. "No- no little brudda. We pray first." Birdie held his hand out for the two to take. Cindy slowly put her hand in his, Riley did the same. I grabbed onto Cindy's hand and Riley's.

Birdie began the pray. "God may you bless this food, may you bless us and our bruddas and may you bless our fallen bruddas. We will miss you, Amen."

"Amen"

"Amen"

"Amen"

Birdie rubbed his hands together. Everybody began to eat. The dinner was very silent. No one spoke a word. It stayed like this til everybody went to bed. Birdie showed us where we'd be sleeping. It was a cramped room with two beds. The night was quiet. When everybody got into their bed they fell right to bed, not me. I was paranoid their was going to another shooting. I stayed up for two hours, just pacing back in forth... Until finally I went to bed.
