"W-who are you?" Lydia asked, reaching into her pocket for her mini dart gun. It was small, but powerful enough to subdue someone for hours.

The smirking woman proceeded to reach into her pocket and pull out an ID case. She opened it and flashed an FBI card. Lydia's eyebrows shot up.

"Who are you?" She asked again, letting go of her gun. The woman, Agent Sierra Ridge, according to her card, smiled.

"Let's go somewhere private." She nodded at the roof they were standing on. "You can get back to this mission later. Follow me."

Without so much as a blink, Agent Sierra leaped off the edge of the roof and landed squarely on a lower roof. Lydia chased after her as she scrambled down a fire ladder and followed her into a crowded restaurant. They sat down at a corner booth and Agent Sierra quickly ordered two ginger ales. Lydia crossed her arms.

"Okay, explain," she ordered. Agent Sierra pulled a thick manilla file folder out of her bag and placed it on the table. She flipped it open and pointed to a picture of a high school girl.

"This," she said, "is Mei Quinn. She attends Crestwood High. Her family is somewhat famous, and we know that she is hiding something with her. Someone -" Agent Sierra pulled out what looked like a yearbook and flipped it open "- is trying to get that something. We need to get that someone out of the way before they kill her for it."

"So what do you want me to do?" Lydia asked.

"If you take the job you will have to become Mei's bestie and find out who's faking their identity. Get them out of the way and we'll take over from there."

Lydia considered the offer. It was her first chance to work for the FBI, to do something real, other than chasing down cheating husbands. And if she could get a few grand for it, it would help support her single mother. Lydia looked at Agent Sierra.

"How much?"

Agent Sierra smiled. "Ten grand."

Lydia blinked. It was more than she expected, which meant that this mission would be serious. And in that case...

"Fifteen grand, final offer."

"You're good. Okay. I'll text you where to meet." And with that, Agent Sierra left, not even bothering to ask for Lydia's number.
