The Beginning

A light snow had made its way to the Avengers Tower approximately midday, when the team had joined for a casual lunch delivered by a pizza parlor decided on by the group. 10 pizzas were delivered, because Bucky, Steve, and Bruce could put away one-and-a-half each, and that's only because they knew the rest of the team would grovel at them for eating more. Once the leftovers were stowed away by an irritated Sam, Wanda shouted indescernably from the large window outlooking most of the grounds and the Quinjet.

The rest of the team piled in beside and behind her and followed the pointing of her hand to a small, shriveled bundle of a sodden human, a streak of blood retreating from the form into the woody area behind it. Immediately, Steve, Sam, and Natasha take off to the nearest exit to bound towards the form. Bruce, Tony, and Wanda head to the lab to set up IVs and an array of different wound healers and cleaners. Bucky sighs and retreats to his quarters, but not before missing the jumbled voices streaking through the compund in hurried orders and exclamations of the form's state.

In the lab, Bruce, Tony, and Wanda make way for Steve to gently place the frail woman onto the hospital bed. Her clothes were singed, her face was covered in soot, and her fingertips and lips were purple from the winter's malice. Natasha murmured to Tony about going to her laptop to find out who she is, which he acknowledged with a slight nod. Bruce administered a coupld of IVs of fluid and immediately sedated the woman, and then started the process of cutting her clothing off of her. Steve blushed and excused himself to shower. Wanda disposed of the fragments of a shirt and pants and Tony ordered F.R.I.D.A.Y. to perform various scans on the individual.

Natasha returns a coupld of hours later with scalding coffee for the trio still in the lab and with results from her probe into the stranger's life.
"Her name is Merula Adams. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from a local college close to her hometown in rural Tennessee. She worked odd jobs, like factories and retail department stores. She was traveling to New York as a spur of the moment decision." Natasha sipped her own coffee as Tony eyed her through F.R.I.D.A.Y.'s projections.

"Well, maybe that decision was a bad one," Bruce said quietly, once again pushing sedatives through Merula's IV.

Tony sighed dramatically. "Second and third degree burns to most of her body, a broken ankle, three broken fingers, lacerations all over her back and abdomen, and from the looks of this..." Tony whirls the projection around to Natasha and Bruce, a scan of Merula's brain glaring at them.

"Long-term memory loss." Bruce whispered. Tony clucked his tongue at him and dismissed the projections. The three heros watched the beeping of the heart monitor solemnly while Wanda excused herself to retire for the night. At about that time, Steve and Sam ventured in to hear about the stranger's case. Nat, Bruce, and Tony repeated the known information as Sam looked down and Steve moved to sit beside her bed. "How did she get hurt like this?" he asked.

"Most likely an explosion, and a tremendous fall right after." Bruce explained.

"Well," Natasha quipped, "if that's the case, why didn't we know about it? How did something like that happen so close to the Avengers tower and no one, not even Bucky or Steve, heard it? You can't tell me that she hobbled her way from a long distance."

Bruce contemplated, but spoke shortly after. "It could be possible that she did. She almost had frostbite from her time in the snow, and the blood trail was extensive. Honestly, I'm surprised she even had a pulse before Wanda picked up her energy." The room fell silent, the only noise that of Sam and Wanda leaving the room, most likely to get some rest.
