~ (Y/N)'s POV ~
The airport was busy as all hell. I mean, how could it possibly be this busy at two in the afternoon on a Tuesday. I grumbled as I quickly tried to make my way to the baggage claim where my bags would soon be arriving. I eventually found my way to the claim and waited for my bags. As soon as they were in my possession I slid my phone out of my pocket. I had a text from an unknown number and I immediately knew who it was. I quickly replied to it that I just got my bags and shoved my phone back in the pocket of my jacket.
As I stepped outside of the airport I notice almost instantly the guy who I would be living with from this day forward, or at least until I get my own apartment. I smiled as I approached him, he was on his phone, not paying attention to his surrounding. A small chuckle escaped my lips as I remember that its exactly how my father had described him. He jolted up and looked up to meet my eyes. His expression contorted into some sort of happy grin. As if he had known me for years, he enveloped me in a huge hug. Rather than being awkward, I hugged him back.
"Its a pleasure to finally meet Mr.(y/l/n)'s daughter! You are much smaller than I imagined you would be, but no matter! We can converse on the road!" Jeff, the man who my father taught in high school spouted as he grabbed my bags from me. Grateful that he was helping me out, I relaxed and hopped into the passenger seat of his car. I was prepared for quite the conversation.
As we drove along on the highway, Jeff spoke up, "So, your name is (y/n), well I remember your dad talking about you in class sometimes. He adored you, said you were always a musical little gem."
"Yeah, my dad is happy I took so much after him, but honestly, when we found out you were still doing theater he flipped out. He was so happy, almost like you were his own son." I explained to Jeff as we drove along.
Jeff snickered, "I was always his favorite student, I'm just glad he is trusting me to make sure that you don't die while out here."
My eyes flickered over to see his focused expression and I smirked as I spoke, "I mean you did help me get a job, and you were his second favorite student. I was his favorite." Jeff's face scrunched up as he thought about if for a moment.
"Debatable," He scoffed. I let out a laugh as he pouted. The rest of the car ride was rather enjoyable. Jeff was a great guy and I could see myself growing closer to him. He feels almost like a brotherly figure. It was comforting. After about another thirty minutes we pulled into a driveway and I hopped out. Jeff grabbed one of my bags while I grabbed the other. He led me into his house, allowing me to go in before him, then following behind. He kicked the door close.
"Well, (y/n), welcome home!" Jeff squawked as he ran out in front of me to hold his arms out as if he was presenting his home to me.
A laugh escaped my lips before I said, "Could you lead me to my room, so I can unpack?" He quickly obliged and led me to the room I would be staying in. It was quaint and rather nice, I thanked him as I stared at everything around me.
"Alright kiddo, I'm gonna leave you to unpack everything." With that he left me to my own thoughts. It felt so surreal that I was here taking one more step towards making my dreams come true. I've always wanted to work on a broadway show as a stage manager. This is one small step, and it just felt amazing.
I spent the next two hours unpacking and organizing everything just the way I wanted. I made sure to make it feel as homey as possible because I had a feeling deep in my bones that I would eventually get home sick. As I finished, I crawled onto my bed and sprawled myself out. My eyes shut as I thought about how much this will change my life. As I thought about possibly finding love, Jeff opened the door to my room. I sat up as If I was a zombie raising from the dead.
Jeff stared at me and then spoke, "Sorry to interrupt you, I was just gonna ask if you wanted to come to the theater with me and meet some of the people you will be working with. But, you see tired so I'll leave you be," Just as he was about to close the door I shot out of bed.
"Give me five minutes and I'll be right out!" He smiled and closed my door after nodding to me. The door shut and I got changed as fast as I could.
Jeff waltzed into the theater as if he owned the place. The confidence on this man was almost unbelievable. I slowly walked in after him, staying close to the door. I didn't want to stray too far from the exit just incase.
"Check it, our new assistant stage manager is here!" Jeff shouted, capturing the attention of basically everyone in the theater. They all approached me and seemingly crowded around me, even though they were a few feet away still.
A short brown haired girl spoke, "I'm Lauren, and the rest of these guys are idiots."
"You are just as much of an idiot as the rest of us. Hi, I'm Joey." A man who was tall and lanky said to me. I nodded my head. Everyone introduced themselves to me, causing me to feel slightly overwhelmed, but I knew in no time I would eventually learn everyone's name.
"Welcome to the Starkid family (y/n)," Jeff exclaimed as he flashed me an award winning smile. The warmth I felt was amazing. It felt great to be welcomed by so many people. I felt more comfortable than I did moments ago. This won't be as bad as I had originally thought.
