The ice elemental seemed to notice, exasperatedly, that Breeze was gone during the fight. Had she been able to get rid of the fire elemental, it'd be a weight off her chest. Scarlet could only assume that her once best friend, now adversary, had run away in fear, and she was now left fighting the bug boy, and the fairy. She could only assume the halfbreed girls were both dead.
What Scarlet didn't notice, however, was the steam rising up from the water.
Neither did anybody notice a familiar red-eyed figure with raven hair making its way towards the fight.
Breeze was a glowing coal in a void of ice. Her body was shining a mixture of red and gold, eyes glowing and red hair floating alluringly in the blackness of the water. The water around her bubbled against the heat of her skin as she grasped Maya firmly by the wrist, pulling her limp body to the surface.
As soon as Breeze surfaced, she let out a gasp. Then, lifting the unconscious Psychic out of the water and dragging her onto the icy shore, climbed out of the water herself, dripping as steam rose off her. The fire elemental closed her eyes and lifted her shaking hands to create a circle of fire around the two.
Breeze's hands hovered over Maya, and the Psychic's blue lips slowly began to gain color again as fire surrounded the two shivering figures.
Taube was slowly making his way up, aiding himself by leaning against the dead tree. His vision was blurred, but as he blinked rapidly, he could make out the disorienting figures of Oliver and Scarlet fighting.
The fairy noticed something black on his hand, and, vision focusing, came to notice the beetle gazing up at him curiously.
"Wh..what? Beetle?" Taube muttered weakly, then once again looked up at Oliver, whose arms were in the air, huge tree roots crashing down in every direction. The area became a mixture of green and blue through the white haziness of the storm. The area was flashing and the earth was shaking.
Taube took his hand off the tree and took a step towards the fight, only to collapse in the snow, breathing harshly. He shook his head, settled the beetle in the inside of his hoodie pocket and his wings began to lift him off the ground and into the storm.
"Come on!" Scarlet growled, "I was just beginning to like you!! You're supposed to be the smart one! Why aren't you giving up?!"
"Giving up isn't-" Oliver groaned as he blocked an attack with a tree root, "g-giving up isn't very smart!"
But as he was distracted, ice spikes shot out of the ground, and he jumped back just in time for it to tear through his sleeve, creating a gash in his arm.
He yelped and clutched his arm, gazing at the ice elemental.
"Wh-why do you want this so bad?! Why do-do you want to be powerful?"
Scarlet narrowed her eyes, lifting her arms into the air as the snow around them froze. "I was born powerful. If I do nothing with it, I'm a wasted life."
Oliver placed his hands on the ground, searching for any tree root nearby- anything at all he could use. There was nothing. Scarlet had been destroying all of them as he used them for protection.
Oliver looked up to see a smirk on the ice elementals face, and as she brought her arms down, Oliver flinched back.
...
But nothing happened. Nothing but a loud chime was heard.
He opened his eye very slowly to see Max standing in front of him with a golden shield out, eyes narrowed at Scarlet. Twigs and leaves were in her hair and a few new bruises, but she had a calculated look in her eyes.
She spun around, smiled strangely at Oliver, and lifted him up by one sleeve. Then as he lifted his arms to attack, she pulled him close and whispered "I remember everything. We're going to go home and get Lily as soon as this is over."
The bug elemental gasped, eyes watering for a moment, before he shook his head and then he blinked them away.
Scarlet scowled. "That's it!! I'm done playing!" She yelled, a burst of cold air whirred out in every direction, the ground turned to slick blue ice. Then at that, ice shot out rapidly towards Max and Oliver.
One hit, then two, then three, all reflecting off Max's shield, forcing them farther and farther towards the edge of the water where Breeze and Maya were.
With a strong blast of ice, the shield disintegrated, sending the two sliding back towards Breeze.
Breeze had stopped warming the area, now panting as she leaned over Maya, who was just beginning to look around, disoriented.
"Finally! Now that I've got you all together, I can end this. I don't care about killing you publicly anymore, you know! This will be a personal accomplishment." Scarlet cleared her throat, dusted herself off, then lifted her arms and a blue forcefield surrounded the group, ice spikes began to surround them and a blue mist settled into the forcefield.
"I think I'll make you all into a nice statue."
Suddenly, a red beam hit Scarlet square in the chest, sending her sliding back. She groaned on the ground for a moment, then forced herself up. As soon as she was up, she locked eyes with a red-eyed figure standing between her and the borderhoppers.
"Sorry, lady. We need them alive"
"'We need them alive'" Scarlet mocked in a babyish voice. "Let me guess, you're Valencia? Well, guess what Valencia! Not happening! Hey, didn't Pheonix work for you once?"
Valencia's eyes flickered for a moment at the name, before she scowled once more.
"Yeah, sorry to say but Pheonix was never working for you. He was my little spy all along! Helped me get these pathetic whelps to my island!" She motioned to the borderhoppers.
Before Scarlet could blink, Valencia was charging at her in a rampage. Scarlet sent out a blast of ice at the Psychic, but she teleported away and the ice phased right through her.
And into Breeze.
The fire halfbreed gasped, stared ahead, then slowly lowered her gaze to the ice spike that had wedged itself into her stomach.
