Everyone froze.
Eyes were glued to Breeze. The girl, who looked warm and sickly,'s hands hovered over the ice in her stomach.
After looking down, she brought her eyes back up to Scarlet.
The fire halfbreed choked out something that was similar to Scarlet's name, but came out nearly incomprehensible. Then she fell to the snow.
Scarlet's eyes were wide, a small grin had formed its way onto her face, yet she remained very still, standing with her arms out, not a breath had escaped her.
One tear trickled down her icy cheek, followed by another. The storm seemed to disintegrate all at once. The clouds remained overcast, but the snow was fading away, seeming to melt into the earth. The fluffy, white snow slowly disintegrated, revealing browned and sickly grass.
Taube had stumbled to the scene, and was covering his mouth with his hands, eyes wide and wings low to the dead grass.
The ice elemental collapsed, and as she did, a neon blue glow emitted from the ground, all remaining ice disappeared with a low whirring sound.
Then, the group brought their attention to Breeze. Her eyes were wide as she stared at the sky, blood seeping from the corner of her lips, nose and staining her clothing and the soil beneath her.
"Breeze! Breeze! Hang on!" Max exclaimed, holding her hands over the girl.
Taube did the same, and their pink and gold magic danced over the fire halfbreed's body.
Oliver muttered something about her being in shock, before a red shield separated the group from Breeze, causing them to jump back.
Their eyes turned towards Valencia, looking like a phantom against the barren wasteland. Red and black snake-like magic danced around her, slithering up and down her arms.
Behind her, Scarlet sobbed into the dead grass.
"Let us heal her!" Maya attempted to use her magic to bring Valencia's shield down but nothing happened.
Max had glanced up to see Wilson make himself known before them. Standing between them and Valencia with his arms outstretched towards her, he shouted "stop!!", only for her to walk through him, unfazed. Wilson spun around, giving Max a heart-wrenching look of despair, unable to do anything.
Valencia snapped her fingers, and the group fell unconscious, all except for Maya. Without a second thought, she charged at Valencia, dagger clutched in her right hand.
The Psychic sighed and swept her arm to the side, sending Maya flying into a tree and knocking her unconscious.
Valencia put her hand on her hips, eyes still glowing a dangerous red as she scanned the area. Everything was dead. Everything was barren and faded.
A few frail and shaky elementals had emerged from the wilderness, peering at Scarlet to see why the storm that had imprisoned them for so long had suddenly disappeared.
Valencia gazed at their island; on which no storm lingered.
"Hey you." She said, eyes not leaving the outline of their home. Scarlet's head jerked towards the Psychic. "Why are you crying?" She chuckled.
"Don't talk to me like I'm a child." Scarlet snapped. "I've been manipulating you and your bastard Psychics and everyone on your island for months now. I'm more powerful than you could ever begin to imagine."
"If you're so powerful then why are you crying?"
"I...I don't know." Scarlet said, "I killed my best friend. I hated her so much! She always knew! She always knew!" The ice elemental clutched her chest, "She always knew that if I used my manipulative powers the way I've been using them, it would turn me into what I am now; crazy, power-crazy. And-and I know I am! I know I'm being bad, I just thought if I proved myself powerful to everyone, everybody would think I'm the 'all-powerful' hero. But Breeze always told me growing up, to be careful, to not get too power-hungry. And I did, and I was wrong- and I killed her-!!"
"That was a rhetorical question." Valencia said with a smirk, "So...did you make that storm on our island?"
"Yeah." Scarlet said quietly, sniffling, "If you want to kill me for doing that, then just do it."
"No." Valencia said, walking over to Scarlet, "I want you to come with me."
"What?! Don't you think I'm crazy?!"
Valencia threw her head back and laughed; the one she does when she knows she's winning. "Sure! So am I! So is Indigo! We all are! Which is why we work together! We may be crazy, but we're not the bad guys here. We're getting rid of the criminals, the borderhoppers, the things that are making us crazy!" Her expression grew dark as she pointed to the scattered group of unconscious bodies. "We're doing the world a favor by getting rid of them."
"But-"
"Now, I'm going to head back to my island, and I'm taking the borderhoppers with me. I'm taking them to Lily and Indigo in the Ascil Towers basement and we're gonna screw around with them to release some steam before we kill them. Then, we can stop being 'crazy'. You can either come with and do the world a favor, or stay here and get the backlash of these elementals."
Valencia motioned to the frail and wide-eyed looking elementals before outstretching her hand to Scarlet, who remained on the ground.
Wilson watched timidly, clutching his chest; a ghostly aura behind a tree, useless. Everything was barren and dead. The air was stiff and unconscious bodies were scattered about. Blood soaked the soil.
"Ok." Scarlet said, sniffing as she took Valencia's hand. "Let's go to Discord Isles."
