Delilah was all smiles when she got her acceptance letter to a local community college. She realized that going there would be better for her. It was more her speed, and she could still focus on sports, only problem was she thought she would have a break down without her best friend at her side. Delilah thought back to the one time when the girls were younger and Amy went on vacation for a month. *I had a full blown panic attack. That was only for a month, how am I suppose to go over a semester without seeing her,* Delilah thought to herself.
Once the school year started she became even more nervous. Everyone in her classes was older than her. She was so intimidated she dropped all her papers and books. She pictured up her pens and papers that were scattered everywhere and quickly moved to the back of the room.
Amy's first day was also overwhelming. She had butterflies in the pit of her stomach and had a feeling everyone in the room knew more than she did.
The girls continued to stay in touch, but insisted on telling each other they were fine.
"The rest of the week was fine mom, it was just the first day that was rough."
Delilah's mom could tell she was lying by the fine of her voice.
"Lilah, I know you've had a rough week," her mom replied.
Lilah sighed.
"You miss Amy don't you?"
"Yeah mom, I do."
"Why don't you try calling her so you can talk things over?"
"Okay, thanks mom."
Delilah dialed Amy's number and as soon as she was about to press call, she pressed end. *She's probably busy,* she thought. *She's probably studying or having a great time with her new smart friends.*
Meanwhile, Amy was stressed out to the point of exhaustion. She was still convinced that everyone was smarter than she. Several people asked if she would be interested in going out to dinner or to the movies, but she insisted on studying more. Amy dialed Delilah's number and as soon as she was about to press call, she pressed end. *She's probably playing basketball or having a great time with her new athletic friends.*
