Chapter 62: Photo Finish & Hidden Package

The two Conduits walk down the road, waving at people as they passed by, but then Cassie's phone went off, they both stop and she answers the call. "I need your photography skills again. I heard a plague ward was just kind of blew up. Get some shots of that. It could be the Beast's Handiwork." Zeke informs her. Cassie stiffens as she frowns sadly. "It was," she states and hung up.

Cole places his hand on her back and she looks at him, smiling sadly at him and he nods at her and they took of down the street and make it to the destroyed plague ward, lucky it wasn't that far. Cassie looks down at the crater, she exhales, then climbs up the side of the ward, jumping on top of a bar, then pulls out her camera snaps a shot of the crater John left behind. "This damage looks kinda familiar somehow. Anyway, let's get some pics of that ice tower! That thing's crazy." Zeke informs her and she jumps down next to Cole, "You know, the ice tower kinda reminds me of the junk one back in Empire." Cassie states.

Cole just smiles at her a little, "Except this one is covered in ice." he jokes, making her smile. "Except that, yeah." she agrees and they ran off into the builds, climb up a tall one, once at the roof. Cole helps Cassie up and they both turn and looked at the ice tower. Cassie aims her camera and took a picture of the ice tower. "Got it," she states and sends the pics to Zeke. "Woo, you made him mad now! They sent out one of those big ice brutes. See if you can get a shot of his powers." Zeke informs her. Cassie cringes as Cole rubs the back of his next. "I'm gonna hate this." Cassie states. Cole pats her shoulder, "We're both going to hate it." he states.

She nods at him and they both jump off the roof, landing on the ground, not a scratch on them and they ran out past the ice tower. They ran to the crossroads and slide to a stop as the Titan was there. It growls and marches at them, but the two quickly turn back around and took off back to the ice tower.

Then they stop and turn back to the titan as he powers up ice boulders, Cassie climbs up the side of the building, hanging there as Cole kept its attention on him, Cassie aims her camera and as the titan threw the boulders, she snaps a picture of the action. Cole dodges the boulders and he looks back at the titan. Then it fires ice beams at him and Cole hid behind a building as Cassie snaps a shot of the ice beams. "We got to study that thing's regenerative powers," he informs her. She nods and looks down at Cole as he pops out, "Take out one of the arms." she informs him.

He nods at her and fires rockets at the Titan, it stumbles back and one of the arms broke off. Cassie then snaps a picture of it and sends them to Zeke. "Okay, he's had enough. Better to put him out of his misery." Zeke informs her, she nods, playing her camera back on her hip then she jumps down. She then threw grenades at it from behind as Cole fires rocket at it from the front.

Then another arm broke off and the titan fell to its knees, then Cole charges at the titan, pulls him amp out. Then jump up, ramping the amp behind the plating and rips off the plating, exposing the face. Cole then pulls away, placing his amp away, Cassie recharges and fires rockets at it, getting it's attention as Cole then recharges his powers, it charges at her, but Cole threw grenades at it, killing it. The titan gasps as it falls to his knees, clawing at its throat, but it was frozen solid and collapsed into ice.

Cassie pants as she walks over to Cole, "Well, that's everything on my list. The more we can learn about our enemies, the better we can fight them." Zeke informs the two, Cassie exhales as she looks up at her, he grins at her and pulls her into a hug. She smiles and hugs her father figure back.

Cole swings his amp, taking out the iceman and he smacks against the ground, then Cassie roundhouse kicks the last iceman in the head. Cole grins at her, but he turns back to the dead iceman and saw the photo that he dropped.

This gets his attention and he picks it up, "Nice picture." he looks down at it and saw that it was a package of Blast shard hidden away at the waterfront. Cassie jogs up to him and looks down at the photo he was holding. We're going after the Blast shards?" she asks him and he nods at her, "Of course, we're getting stronger for it." he informs her.

She nods at him and the took off down the road, they ran past the oil stations and make it to the harbor, Cassie threw her tether at the warehouse on the side and she pulls herself up. To the roof. Cole follows her as they looked up at the crane. "It's close." Cassie states and Cole looks at her "How can you tell?" he asks her, she looks at him and taps her temple. "I can sense everything now when John gave us our new powers it unlocked something inside my send, I can sense all the conduits in the city, I can sense the blast shares and cores, I can even sense John in Beast or human form," she informs him.

He looks at her, surprised of the new ability she's discovered, "Can you sense me?" he jokes and she grins at him, "Of course I can sense you, I can feel the electricity coursing through your body as it's coursing through mine." she states, he chuckles at her then threw the tether at the crane, "That a pretty cool power." he states and flew towards the crane, Cassie laughs and she threw the tether at the crane and she was pulled up towards the crane as well.

Cole lands on his feet as he stood on the platform and looks around for the package, Cassandra then lands on the platform and she rolls into a squat position, she shook her head and shot up to her feet and dust herself off, she then stops and looks over a Cole as he was grinning at her, "What?" she shrugs and he shook his head. Then he walks past the controls and found the package on the ground, "Here we go." he states and picks it up. Cassie then walks over towards him and he held it out to her, she smiles and grips on the edge of the package and they absorbed the shards inside, making them both exhale and stretch out their body. "How can you tell you're sensing anything?" he asks her.

She looks at him and thinks to herself, "Well... it's like this itch in the back of my head I can't scratch." she answers him. Cole looks at her with a frown "Does it hurt?" he asks again and she rubs her shoulder. "If the Conduit is really powerful or the object is, that's when the itch becomes a burn and I can't put it out," she answers and he grips her shoulder. She looks at him and smiles. "I'm alright, Cole. Don't worry about me," she assures him, gripping his hand and he sighs at her.

They climb up to the top of an oil station then looked out at the city as they owed all of it, "It's time to take the fight to Bertrand." Cole states Cassie nods at him. Then he looks out at her, "Are you ready for this?" he asks and she looks at her, "It's time that to pay the piper." she states.

He smiles at her and grips the side of her head, "You and me, Cassandra." he swore to her, she smiles at him as he pressed his forehead to hers. "You and me," she mutters as she was grateful to Cole for everything he's done for her.

Taking her under his wing, training her, teaching her, giving her a family, saving her from depression and suicide after she was beaten to death. Remaining her that she was still a kid and not a monster. Cole taught her everything she knew of right and wrong and she would gladly follow him to the depth of hell.

But now it was time to face the very person that lied and manipulated the very people of New Marais and this time, this time he was not going to getaway.
