Chapter 42

Blink

The frying pan came at him first and Blink popped away, teleported a foot to the side as it neared him.  Hehet screamed again and dove for the cupboard under the sink.

Eun Kyung was laughing, Bambi was shaking her head and Ash was waving his hands.  "No.  No.  It's okay.  Hetty, it's okay.  It's just Blink and Camo."

Camo had already disappeared.  Blink suspected she was tucked back into Ash's backpack on the floor, hiding from her crazy human.  Several things came flying out of the cupboard, but none came close enough to hit them.

Then Hehet stood up, an aerosol can in her hand.  "Get those things away from me!"

Ash left his hands up and Blink could hear his human trying to sound calm.  "It's okay, Hetty.  They're friends."

"They're creepy!"  Without another word, Hehet pressed her finger on the aerosol nozzle.  Blink had a tiny moment where he was able to read the wording on the can.  Bug spray.

He, Ash and Bambi caught the spray in the face.  Ash turned away and Blink teleported behind Hehet.  Without time to think of where he was going, he ended up on a cookie sheet that was on top of the stove.  It wobbled under him; made a sound like a tiny peal of thunder and Hehet turned, bug spray still spewing from the can.

Eun Kyung stopped laughing and jumped forward.  She grabbed Hehet's hand and spun it around, knocked it hard against the refrigerator door.  The can clattered to the floor.  "Ow," Hehet said.

Blink stared at the girl, his vision fuzzy from the spray that was built up on his button eyes.  Then he turned to Ash.  "You okay?"

Ash was bent over, his hands stretched out away from his scrunched up face.  "Psycho.  That stuff's a neurotoxin.  God," he said as he started to cough.  Beside him, Bambi was wiping at her face.  Ash reached out and grabbed her hand.  "Don't rub it in."  That was one of the things that made Blink proud of his human.  He used his geek knowledge for good.

Blink turned to Eun Kyung.  "Can you get them into a shower?"

Eun Kyung nodded back.  "Hey, nutjob," she said to Hehet.   "You poisoned my friends.  Where's the shower?"  Hehet pointed and Eun Kyung pushed her along.  As the two girls guided Ash and Bambi toward the bathroom, Blink walked over the counter to the sink and turned the water on.  He left it on cold for a moment, then remembered how he had felt Ash pinch him.  He added in some hot until the water was pleasantly warm, then jumped into the sink.

He stepped in a circle and felt himself gain weight as the water soaked into his stuffing.  Feeling sluggish, he grabbed the dish soap and poured it over his head.  The water pressure changed and a moment later he felt a sense of relief, thought that it might be coming from Ash.  As the feeling of discomfort passed away, it was replaced by something else.  Ash was sharing the shower with Bambi and they both had their faces under the water, right next to each other.  Blink gulped and tried to help Ash think of something else.

For nearly ten minutes, Blink soaped and rinsed, until he thought he had most of the bug spray off of his skin.  He just hoped that it hadn't seeped in with the water.  It wouldn't do anything to him, but it might become something that would make Ash sick later.  He didn't know for sure.  He figured he was the first voodoo doll to ever be sprayed like a roach.

Ash and Bambi came out, still in their clothes, soaking wet with towels on their heads.  Ash tossed another towel to Blink, who rolled himself in it and tried to squeeze some of the water out of his body.

"Camo," Ash said.  His voice was scratchy and he coughed again.  "She's calmed down.  You can come out now."

"No."  Camo's voice came from inside the backpack.  "She's awful.  She's mean."
