Backseat of a Vauxhall

Somewhen yesterday evening I had fallen asleep. Ace right beside me. I had fuzzy memories of feeling like I was floating and I had awoken in my bed. I couldn't help but squeal into my pillow at the thought of Ace holding me in his strong arms and gently tucking me into bed.

I had told myself 'We're just friends, We're just friends', over and over. My head nor my heart was convinced.

Thankfully, it was now Saturday, a lie-in was welcomed.

I trudged tiredly from my warm bed and to my kitchen for a coffee. My hair was a mess and I was still in the clothes from yesterday, glad Ace hadn't tried undressing me. My pink blouse was kind of twisted so I stood for a moment and re-arranged myself. My clumsy self also bumped into the doorway, I grabbed at my funny bone that wasn't very funny.

"Oww." I rubbed at it to try and dispel the pain.

When I made it safely to the kitchen my heart swelled. Ace had washed up and put the mugs we had used on the dryer. A man that washed up. Rare but so, so appreciated.

A white slip of paper was placed neatly on the table, my third mug on top of it to keep it from flying away.

Anna, I hope you slept well. You were out like a light.

I stayed a little longer to keep an eye on you but left a few hours later.

I actually had some work to do so I burrowed your laptop and emailed it to myself, so now you have my email. Hope you don't mind.

I have work later today but when you have time send me a text, I'll reply when I can. Have a great weekend, drink lots of water.

Love, Ace :)

P.s my number is 07450******

His handwriting was cute and very neat. I couldn't help the smile, I was so head over heels. I told myself no, I couldn't afford to waste time on boys that could just leave me or play me for a fool. I didn't think Ace was like that, I just didn't want to risk the emotional turmoil.

I got my phone and added Ace's number, texting him.

Anna- Hey :)

I was already failing miserably. Maybe it was just a course I had to take. A heartbreak I would have to go through.

I had some breakfast before taking a shower and getting dressed. My freshly washed hair was dripping small cold droplets down my back before I wrapped it in a towel and moisturised. After checking the warming weather forecast I chose out an outfit to correspond with the outside temperature. A red dress, black tights, and a white cardigan.

When I was finally ready, hair done and makeup on, I slipped on my black lace-tied boots with a zipper on the inside, zipping it securely on my foot. I grabbed my shoulder bag with my purse and phone tucked in and left my apartment. Susy awaited.

...

I had been sitting alone in the Beach Cafe Bar, not far from St. Ives Harbour. Susy asked me to meet there that morning. She was clearly running late, which may surprise you but I was usually the more time-conscious one. Susy loved being 'fashionably late'. I didn't mind one bit, she was loveable, to say the least.
