Chapter 9: OTW

After an hour of driving and singing whatever song came on the radio, the pair finally made it to Ebony's humble abode.

"We're here!" She chirped, shutting the engine off and turning to her dear friend.

Before he could respond, She spoke again: "Ready? Come on." He laughed and pushed the door open before sliding himself out of her purple Rolls Royce.

Purple had always been her favorite color, and it amused Michael. Purple was a nice color, but he liked the way he looked in other colors. If it wasn't silver or sequined, he didn't want much to do with it these days.

The sunlight illuminated Michael's melanin as he carried each of his bags into the threshold of Ebony's house—and a house it was.

The interior of her home boasted glossy wooden floors, high ceilings, and big windows. The curtains were drawn, but they were so light that the sunlight still slipped in and illuminated her decor. Her place was neutral, but homey—it fit her.

He stood in the middle of her living-room, simply looking around before he felt something smack him against the head. His eyes narrowed as his head snapped over to the direction of the snickering little minx that was Ebony. 

"You are sure a lousy host, you know that?" She was just sobering up before she was thrown back into a fit of laughter—Michael's indignant expression amusing her further.

"Oh relax, AppleHead. You'll be fine.
Come on, let me show you to your room."

He shook his head and lifted his bags before following Ebony up the stairs and down the hall. This break was going to be fun, If his family was really going to leave him to be an adult. His brothers understood, but Joseph was a whole different thing. He hated growing up, but one thing he was glad about was that he was too old for Joseph to beat him anymore. He was always the defiant one, and often got it worse because of that attitude. Oh well, enough worrying about that. His break was starting, and he was going to enjoy it.
